[quote=zombie.modernist] Can anyone who owns this pressing confirm the deadwax is stamped STERLING RJ, as in Ray Janos from Sterling? My copy, bought late 2017 has MASTERDISK SH — Scott Hull from Masterdisk. Quite possibly this is an alternate cut / ... See full review

This remaster is quite light on the bass and though the vocals are clear and forward, everything else sounds quite thin. As this album falls squarely within the grunge period, and was originally produced to sound in that style, I'd go for the earlier ... See full review

I've heard tons of pressings of this classic LP (one that remains very dear to my heart, despite what 'Loaf has done to himself these last few years with ill-advised public performances!). THIS is the one pressing, from any country and any master done ... See full review

Was able to cop today off Amazon for $77...best deal out there really: and your review on the official press gave me confidence on a well thought out purchase. Thanks.

The single best pressing of this album I have ever heard. Note that first pressing of this Mastersound edtion (HC 33453) is not regarded as highly, and it's this second pressing with different mastering (and different stampers of course) they seem to ... See full review

Love this album. I knew nothing of their metal core roots, so came to it totally fresh, and it’s brilliant. Driving shoegazey rock with a thumping backbeat. Highly recommended to those who like MBV, mixed with Catherine Wheel.

You're quite right - what I should have said was "the MASTERING of this digital source has left this record with no depth or dynamics".

@jacklaster - yes, this is the same mastering as the KG blue pressing from 2011 (which I also have), and these are the ones to get.

My copy is absolutely fine and sounds great - zero issues. Cleaned and carefully handled of course on a Pioneer PL50. Would recommend.

Which just goes to prove - digital sources can be mastered beautifully for vinyl. In the right hands, you *may* not be able to tell the difference. But at the very least, not all digital sources should just be dismissed offhand for a potential transfer ... See full review

This is a disappointment - terrible SQ from a very average source (soundboard?).
The vinyl mastering probably hasn't helped, but honestly, the source tape would have to be pretty average to have this vinyl release sounding *this* bad.

Still struggling to see what's so 'special' about this release. It's in a gatefold - and....that's about it. Same old tracks and hits (nothing wrong with that), but these are all available in a million different ways since the 70's. And this edition on ... See full review

Hmmm..first impressions today are not great. I don't have an OG to compare to, only the MP3's I've been listening to for years. But so far it sounds pretty shallow - no bottom end and very bright with very little soundstage.
