Had the same experience with the 2LP. Not sure if it was a matter of being pressed elsewhere or people not listening closely.

My ears aren't the best these days, but this was pretty egregiously bad.

Handsome, Roundhouse and Jackson have all been individually reissued via No Blow/Chunklet if anyone was interested in something other than the boxset (as cool as it is).

I mean, my copy was noisy too so I believe it. Target, however, does not press these. It's still through the geffen label and whatever pressing plant they use.

Support local shops instead!

This is correct. Not sure if it was a mistake that they weren't numbered or a mistake that they put it in the description. I do recall VMP reaching out via e-mail around the time they discovered the error.

Well said. I also laughed at the "I don't own a TV. I don't own a car" bit. Quite relatable. I'll still be holding on to this set as it still sounds pretty good but just missed some opportunities as you so nicely described for us. I have the utmost... See full review

Agreed, but at the same time one has to be a smart consumer.

It's not that difficult to track down the official Clouds Hill shop by googling "Frances the Mute Reissue."

Ignore the strange vultures of discogs and they will vanish or reset their prices. See full review

My mistake. This appears to still be a lillith reissue.

I was wondering about this one. It's actually quite affordable too! Have you heard any of the lillith reissues? If so how do they compare?

I sure hope no one lost their job over this, unless it was a big-wig. Ipecac has had quality control issues for a hilariously long time for it to be the fault of one individual.

Never had this on vinyl, but now it's available and reasonably priced considering your alternatives. Not going to yell about audiophile-related matters for a record known for its post-production issues. It sounds as a rock and roll record ought to.

While it certainly didn't bother me too much, I do know what you mean. I felt that side 2 of disc 1 sounded a bit more open and lively compared to side 1. Unless, of course, my brain was playing tricks on me.

"Voodoo conjecture" is something I'll have to use from now on. That's a pretty reasonable walk-through. I suppose it would deserve more scrutiny if it were completely remastered, and it wasn't in this case. Quality control issues are always fair game... See full review

[quote=Aethyos] You make valid points but I'd argue that the Discogs ACTIVE marketplace is not an accurate representation of a record's worth. But sale history? Yeah. Like it's legit showing you what others have paid which is pretty indicative of... See full review

I know people are trying to school you here, but the reality is Discogs is not an accurate representation of the worth of any given pressing. This will be repressed in a color variant soon fyi. At that point you'll see that the standard black version... See full review

Sorry for the delay! Good news and bad news: good news is this is lightyears better than the eternal yip eye pressing in terms of surface noise...but that's as far as the good news goes. Bad news is my copy was pressed a bit off-center and you can... See full review

All of the domino reissues I've gotten around to have had the same surface noise issues. Other than that, they are all mastered quite well by the wonderful Chris Bellman.
The noise issue is far more noticeable on headphones, by the way.

I have never heard an original pressing so I am basing my listening experience on this pressing's merits alone. This is a quality master housed in absurdly wonderful packaging. The discs are flat and quiet and you don't have to worry about sibilant... See full review

Mike,

How sibilant is this pressing? That's what drove me bonkers on the Curtom reissue.

Am I losing my mind or wasn't this JUST reissued?

Does this keep with the running tradition of Ace of Spades reissues sounding awful?

Yeah, he's had that persona since forever. Snarky 90's slacker thing. It has not aged well.

I am a few years too late, but from what I understood there was an incident that essentially destroyed a good amount of these while they were in transit which is why it ended up being so difficult to find.

Just arrived in the mail.

They did up their game with the mailer they used, but I still had a minor seam split on the top spine of the second gatefold. Probably got roughed up in transit. Other than that, this sounds pretty dang good. My disc is... See full review

These early Blonde Redhead records were far better produced than I remember! Great album mastered well by the mighty Numero Group. Flat and mostly quiet disc, cool printed inner sleeve, sturdy jacket with beautiful artwork. One of their better albums!

Hardly a prog nerd here. I do think it's acceptable to complain about packaging for a 60 dollar record. One would absolutely get blasted for sending out records in the manner in which they do on Discogs.

To anyone else who has this pressing: does your copy say Armageddon Records on the spine? The center labels on the discs match the Go International pink labels shown here. I'm wondering if someone swapped out the cover at some point with my copy?

Eh, the equipment argument only goes so far. Look at Fat Possum's track record. I believe the critiques. Also, one shouldn't have to rigorously clean a new record several times to get it to cooperate.

The disc is offended. My guess is because there is already a ton of the standard black reissues floating around (without the bonus disc of course). A little variety never hurt anything...just our wallets.

Maybe I'll send their CS a nice e-mail with a suggestion for future shipments. I'd like to think they had to rush given the demand and volume of orders.

Third Man might want to consider outsourcing their mastering for certain releases, especially if they are reissues. They got Chris Bellman for Trout Mask and Bob Weston for Sleep and Laughing Hyenas and those releases sounded pretty good.
