Morphine (2) - Live At The Warfield 1997 kage1974

November 22, 2017
I'll take 'preposterous' but allow me to elaborate on my statement. I've seen some pretty good quality videos recorded on phones from live performances that represent the sound and feeling of a live 'in the room' performance. This record sounds like they took feeds from the board and did very little with them. A/B the version of Honey White from this record to the studio version. At least we can agree on the sound though. Just so you know, I've been in the music business as a performer/writer/producer for 25 years and counting but that's here nor there. Cheers.

Whomever mixed and mastered this either had little to work with or worse, misguided ears. A live performance on record should try to bring you into that room. I've seen Morphine live and this record is no where near that. It pains me to say this but it might have sounded better from a nice iPhone recording had they existed then.... an anemic presentation but still a 'must' for fans.

Sound quality is great! There are some forgotten gems in this collection. A great addition if you want to add a little class to your Christmas music repertoire. Good record!

As of today, 2910 Discogs users report owning the RSD colored vinyl version of this album. Discogs users only. Just think how many were actually pressed..... $100 a copy? The black vinyl version is now available for pre-order.

Stan Getz & Lionel Hampton - Hamp & Getz kage1974

Dull and lifeless. Yeah, all these European 'reissues' are nothing more than hype. Plates made from digital source material. If the original title is more than 50 years old avoid it.

If you don't have a pristine original (or even if you do) this is the version to have. Great sound. Wow.

Way too many to justify a price north of $50..... especially considering they are going to release it again on black vinyl soon.

Doxy Music kage1974

January 7, 2015
From what I've been seeing Doxy has been taking titles that are now free from European copyright and pressing vinyl from digital source material. Ever notice that all these titles are over 50 years old? These are not re-mastered from original tapes. You might as well just buy the CDs (which is probably what they're making the plates from). I would avoid them....

Beautiful pressing. Noise free, FANTASTIC sound quality. This recording has probably never sounded this good. Highly recommended.

My copy definitely has various noises. Is it awful? Not terribly. But it certainly isn't a 'great' pressing. In general it doesn't interrupt the majority of the music (this is a pretty 'busy' Sigur Ros record) but in quiet passages it can be heard. Livable but disappointing for sure....

GREAT pressing!!! I set the volume on my hi-fi to my normal level and put this on. I had to turn it down! Loud, clear, present and lively. Fantastic!!! If you've been wanting a copy of this and find a clean copy I highly recommend it.

GREAT pressing. Full, natural, and lively. If putting this record on doesn't make you want to do anything but stay up late and have a good time...check in with a shrink.

From what I've been reading online Doxy is basically taking titles that are now free from European copywrite protection and using digital source material to repress to vinyl. Kinda sounds like it.... Bummer. Not a terrible pressing but... I wish someone would repress this using the masters.
