Great tune, both parts. It has that Acen sound even though the production technique is up to date - it has that melancholic sound that all his early stuff always had. I wonder if they cleared that Elton sample though?

I don't know about Sydney but here in the UK everyone was fucked up on drugs before '91, during '91 and way after '91 but they also danced because they liked it.

Amazing set this, would have loved to have been there seeing it live, but I only went to the '95 Tribal Gathering. Some classics mixed in Laurent's true style. Mixing is a little sloppy briefly in parts but other than that its a fantastic selection... See full review

I bought this back when it first came out and just didn't really gel with it TBH. I persevered for a while but eventually just gave up on it. In comparison the first F.A.C.T CD blew me away, I played it to death and to this day it's one of my... See full review

B1 here for me. A lovely hard chunky distorted break layered over lush haunting pads evokes a very Aphex-ey sound but maybe with a slightly harder edge. An maybe at a push I would also recommend B2 with it's more trance-ey sound and arrangement. It... See full review

That Agoraphobia track is fantastic, certainly the one to go for on this E.P. for me. Has a very Aphex sounding quality to it with those haunted pads and that chunky distorted break clattering around. Great hard dance music.

This mix is just sublime.

I have to agree here, it's not cheesy. What exactly would the OP say was cheesy about it? At a push I suppose you could say that its maybe a little commercial at times, but it's well metered out with some proper deep underground stuff too. A classic... See full review

The old 'rare as rocking horse shite' saying certainly seems to apply to this one with only one sale way back in 2012. I would love to hear this mix. Reactivate 9 certainly has some of best most coveted tunes from the absolute hey-day of trance/hard... See full review

It's great to have the unmixed release, many of the track, as others have pointed out, are absolute gold classics, but this mix is just amazing. So well mixed, paced and ordered. This mix got me through many come-downs and after-chill sessions during... See full review

They mixed and recorded the tracks approximately 4 at a time in the usual way on decks and then pieced them together into a full mix using pro tools, but no edits were done on the computer, rather they were done on tape in the studio in the usual way... See full review

Unreleased tune, and like Poinydexter says, there was no digital back then, not really even CDs were mixed, it was all vinyl, so I assume Carl Cox must have just had a personal pressing or acetate of this track for himself.

Oddly, Leave Me In Broken Dreams works. The vocal isn't really in time with the beat but it gives it this kind of other-worldly ghostly quality. I wonder if he cleared that Motown sample?

Also check out Rush Hour 2 - Happy House Rides Again. A little more up-beat, and, maybe, a little more cheesy, but still some great tunes from that same time as COUH vol 1.

If you put more that 20 minutes on one side of vinyl you lose quality quite drastically. That's why most older albums from before the CD era were usually around 40 minutes.

Some of the best tracks from the time on this compilation. A time just before the Happy Hardcore sound started to get a little too cartoonish and juvenile IMO. Absolute classics really and well worth getting.
