released only 2 days before his death, blackstar could be bowies most seminal work to date. adding to it's already deeply layered mythos, bowies death gives an even harsher and more human element to this work. being a seminal work about his life and ... See full review

Doomy, politically incorrect, grippingly erotic, heavy as sin, black as a crows feather.

Perhaps Johannes most complex work to date. Unlike the murky sound design of his earlier works, or the sad acid squeels of his acid recordings, Vienna Blue is a mostly acoustic affair. Amidst his mostly club friendly catalogue this piece of music sits ... See full review

Tin Man is a producer who can squeeze such aching melancholy from his trusted Roland gear that it nearly brings me to tears except for the propulsive and trance inducing bliss that he brings with his drum machine workouts. TB 303's, TR 707's and 909's ... See full review

my favorite project from RDJ, has the analogue quirkiness of his later album Syro, but with drum programming that would make angels weep. the term hard hitting doesn't even begin to describe what's on offer here.

If I could pick one track that illicits the most nostalgia from my memories, it would be this one. I bought this record in 1997 at a record store in Midtown Kansas City Missouri (there must have been a few garage dj's around the area at the time). This ... See full review

[quote=OochyKoochy] The sorry points of such re-release ploy are that 1/ it will leak in no-time, because of the planned/organized scarcity of the re-release 2/ it is ripped -erm- from vinyl. For $70,000 / $16 apiece, one could encrypt the original files ... See full review

much of Voigts newer works fall into a unique category of composition. in Ruckverzauberung he took brief clips from orchestral recordings (who knows which composers or artists he sampled), in similar fashion to his work as Gas. but where Gas sometimes ... See full review

Funky analog drum machine/synth jam tracks from Richard D James. The Tuss formula involves heavily syncopated drum and synth programming, somber and almost jazzy chords, bending analog tones, chunky beats. Compositionally it draws on many themes and ... See full review

This album serves as an excellent introduction to Basic Channel. I remember first hearing of BC and feeling a little confused as to what it is, or what it sounded like. Some of it's heavy and fast, some of it tempered and nautical, and every track has ... See full review

after "oblivion with bells", underworld have taken a U2 meets modern club-fodder act approach to music. they used to craft heavy 909 bangers rife with Ash Ra Temple synth arpeggios and stream-of-conscious lyrics, bridging melody and danceability with ... See full review

you can seriously listen to Hypnotised and say the title is not representative of the sound... i mean it's sexy, funky, driving. what's not to like? half the releases on DFA try to emulate this period-style, and for good reason, it makes people want ... See full review

well if artists always fit our expectations of them, music would be quite boring. one reason border community, and james holden, moved away from the progressive house trend is that it is dead folks! progressive house has been dead for quite a while now, ... See full review

Daft Punk bring house back to an era of disco/funk long lost in the 1970's. Trading off their signature brand of seizure inducing mashup electro, perfected throughout the 2000's, DP give it's fans a history lesson. Many will find this album falling ... See full review

ignore lemmiwinks here. he obviously doesn't know about the evolution of modern techno or trance, about acid house in the 80's, the morphing from acid house-rave-hardcore-(jungle, techno, schranz, drum n bass, big beat). MWNN started like many 90's ... See full review

i became a fan of hakan in the last year or so (2009-2010). his work reminds me a bit of josh wink, functional house/techno with either elegant developments or booty-shaking relentlessness. the track that stood out to me the most, 2009's "dyssomniac", ... See full review
