Haven't had time to enter everything into the database, especially the rather large number of CDs I have.

Can anyone comment on the quality of the latest CD version?

A very underrated album IMHO. Would probably be enjoyed by collectors of 80s post-punk, new wave, darker/moodier strains of synthpop, etc. Well worth picking up if you come across a copy. A shame this has not been reissued on CD or lossless digital.

The mastering may be different but the mixes are the same AFAIK. A lot of people are confused about what mixes and mastering are.

Agreed, looks like some copies were fitted with an OBI for export to Japan.

Anyone know who mastered and pressed this? Deadwax info? TYIA.

Pretty sure this is an AAD release. You might have a misprint on your CD.

If anyone is still looking for a copy of this CD contact K-Murdock through the Panacea Bandcamp page. He still has a few copies left right now. You can give money to the artists instead of paying insane inflated prices.

Can anyone confirm if the reissues of old stuff this label has done are legitimately licensed with decent sources?
|
![]() |
The label that put out the release tends to compress all their stuff, just like most Japanese hardcore labels these days. The Feral Ward FLAC downloads from Qobuz are also very compressed.

Mine were okay but I immediately removed them and put them in sleeves so I could store the actual discs separately so they wouldn't get damaged. Agree that the CD holders are one of the stupidest ideas I've ever seen.

It is likely a Type I tape. Type II Chrome tape and higher isn't really being made anymore. At least not in significant quantities. There are tape duplicators selling old stock Type II but sometimes this old tape stock can have problems depending on...

Dub 1 should be 15:36. Dub 2 is 20:56. I have both the record which I purchased around '99/2000 and the FLAC files which I purchased years later. Some of these were pressed haphazardly so mixed up labels are hardly surprising at all.

I don't care what a label or artist does for the physical release, but at least make the digital version available through Bandcamp or Bleep or something. Nowadays this type of music is digitally recorded anyway, and if the pressings are mediocre and...

Does anyone know what pressing of this album was released first? Way back in the 90s I had the one with the black and white cover but a few years later I sold it. Seems like the people I knew back then had the black and white cover. I nearly flipped...

I love this band, but all these bootlegs sound terrible. There is a reputable label that is trying to seek a license from Universal Music Group (who own the album) to do a real, legit reissue on CD from the original master tapes for probably a year or...

The black vinyl is out and sounds excellent. You won't be disappointed.

Sounds like you haven't got a clue. As I mentioned TWO YEARS AGO, MMJ releases used to sell for normal prices until the person that runs the company decided to play yo-yo games with prices. The prices on some releases now have truly jumped the shark...

The first example is correct. Bilbo @ Tape One was Denis Blackham's old mastering signature. He's the one that cut your particular LP.

The discs in this box appear to be the original CD masters. Not highly compressed remasters.

Appreciate the honesty. Too many people rushing out to buy every new reissue because it's "on vinyl" without regard to quality. Hard to beat the original CD in this case. It's a shame the CD boxset is so compressed. Would've liked it for the...

What plant was the 2xLP reissue version pressed at? Thanks.
|

It would appear so, because there is no way in hell all those bonus tracks are going to fit at 45rpm. Probably cut from the CD audio in this case.

One of the best live jazz albums I've ever heard. Get a copy if you can.

No skips on my old copy. Likely the problem is on your end and not the record itself.

Really annoyed at this release. Most of this material has been unavailable for a long time and it's nice to see it reissued but why on earth did the geniuses at Universal release this as a set of MQA-CDs? Garbage format, and basically a snake oil...

He was involved in a number of Who releases, check the credits on here. The ones from the early to mid 2000s were fairly compressed then around 2010 or a little later he started doing much more dynamic releases without all the compression. Of course...

Listening to this release, it seems like it is a similar deal as the Pure Pleasure pressing of Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus. Mono cover art, a stereo label, but the actual recording is mono. The label also told me it was mono.

IIRC Sub Pop and Modern Classics/LITA have pressed stuff at Erika as well.

Agreed this plant is not the best around. Vinyl is regularly pressed off-center, warped, or full of non-fill. Edge trim is also off sometimes so badly it's a joke. Many labels use this plant but don't disclose it unless you ask. These pressings can...

Interesting info. I checked my CD set and it appears to have the correct tracklisting, not the mislabaled alternatives as you mentioned. My copy of CD #2 in this set has this matrix:

It is possible to center an off-center record with careful filing of the center hole and manually centering the record. PITA, but possible. Further, it was very easy to tell the record sounded like crap and used a bad source. Comparing with a Red...

None of the Cure remasters sound any better than the old Elektra or Fiction CDs, full stop. All they do is add a different EQ and some compression, neither of which was necessary. The only reason to buy them at all is for the bonus material, or...

There are no "norms" with vinyl these days since quality of sources, cutting, and pressing run the gamut. There are very well done releases out there (a small minority) and loads of half-assed crap. The album didn't need to be remastered, period.

No idea why the delay has been so long. Other reissues were also supposed to be in the works, IIRC.

"Pepper" is on the U.S. Radikal/Hot CD. "De-Orbit" is not. "Something For Your Mind" and "Pullover" are the tracks on the U.S. CD that are not on the UK Warp CD.

Would greatly appreciate lossless digital versions of these albums, preferably made available through Bandcamp.

I don't think so. This box contains Ryko/Hannibal discs, not the Island discs in the other pressing. Mastering on this one is the same as the larger 1986 box. I believe the Island ones were a different mastering. The CD face and tray card art is...

A very interesting label, mostly home to works by Pub and various pseudonyms. Several releases are OOP at this point, especially the limited run releases from the related Talent Hoover and Earplug labels. This kind of stuff would be well suited to a...

Masters are long gone for a bunch of Red Rhino stuff, IIRC. Been that way for years. See the various CD and digital versions of RLYL material mastered haphazardly from vinyl going back years.
