My copy has a fair bit of surface noise on all 4 sides.

It's actually Funky Sensation by Gwen McRae. Both Heartbeat and Funky Sensation were released before this. When performed live the raps were done over DJ's looping breaks from the records, but when they recorded they couldn't do that for copyright... See full review

I have a Graham Phantom 2 tonearm which allows on the fly VTA adjustment and has a built in bubble level to assist with adjustments. I don’t measure it for every record but I do have height settings for 180g, 150g, and dynaflex records and set height... See full review

My copy is perfect on side one and has obnoxious crackle throughout all of side 2. Fortunately the music is loud enough to mostly drown it out but it's still bad enough I want to replace it.

I just bought a copy at Newbury Comics, the shrinkwrap was tight enough that it was pushing the sides of the box in. I had heard reports about the first LP being dished but figured since I have a VPI TNT with a reflex clamp that does a great job of... See full review

It was nowhere to be found on the radio in Boston but it was one of the monster records of the year on my boom box in 85.

I bought the US Chess release in 74 or 75, it was my first Bo Diddley record. All of the tracks except 1-2 are rechanneled stereo. Avoid.

Jack The Ripper is original (at least it sounds the same as the version on my Swan 45). Rumble is re-recorded. AFAIK it's the only re-recorded track.

I have a copy of this (the black checker label variant with no side 1/2 or quotes on the tracks) I picked up on ebay in the late 90's that looks like it came from the record store yesterday. No marks on the vinyl, super shiny, no spindle marks on the... See full review

To give a rough idea of the release date, I think I bought this bootleg in 1974 or so, and as I recall it had been out for a year or two before I bought it. Even back then this was a very expensive record if you could even find a copy (I've never... See full review

That was pretty normal for double records in the 70's and earlier. There were record players available that you could stack a bunch of records in and when one finished in would drop the next on top and play it. So the idea was you could stack the... See full review

Every copy of this I've heard has a skip in the second verse of B1 (and I heard about 12 at the record pool when it came out). Our guess at the time was that it was a mispress. I managed to cue burn the skip out w/o damaging the sound so it is... See full review

Absolutely awful. This record represents everything that was wrong with commercial dance music in the late 80's. I remember getting this from the record pool; we were all rolling our eyes. I still have it but I've never played it other than to rip... See full review

This version was a promo only. It was placed in the same jacket as the regular release with a sticker that stated "3 New Jump Start Mixes". It has the same catalog number as the original release, no idea why they did that.
Kool & The Gang - Hangin' Out / Ladies Night
posted a comment on Kool & The Gang - Hangin' Out / Ladies Night. over 15 years ago
The version of Hangin' Out on the single is totally different from the LP version. It has some extra vocals in parts and a sax line in some places. The editing is very different as well. I always preferred the LP version and that's what I played out.
