It's very rare I hear an album only 5-10 times and declare it a 5-star album. Actually, I don't think I have ever done that. Usually it takes many years, even decades for an album to worm its way into my consciousness enough for me to rate it that ... See full review

Europa String Choir were and are sadly unknown to just about everyone except for those few '90s King Crimson fans who may have heard "The Sermon on the Mount" on Discipline Global Mobile's 1996 compilation, Sometimes God Hides. While that track's somber ... See full review

Back in the ‘90s, “extreme” was a buzzword that became inexplicably elevated in mass consciousness and quickly become overused to the point of meaninglessness. But if there was music in the ‘90s that truly lived up to the word, Doctor Nerve’s “Skin” is ... See full review

Bella Band's sole studio album is chock full of sunny and energetic Mediterranean jazz rock, where the saxophonist, guitarist and keyboardist all take turns leading the group through four instrumental pieces. While it lacks the avant-garde edge typically ... See full review

If you needed a drummer to play on your krautrock album in the 1970s, Harald Grosskopf was the guy you called. He was a member of Wallenstein and played on albums by Ash Ra Tempel, Klaus Schulze, You and Cosmic Jokers.

Synthesist was Grosskopf’s debut ... See full review

Perhaps no other album epitomizes the ECM label's atmospheric aesthetic more than this magical 1979 release by Terje Rypdal, Miroslav Vitous and Jack DeJohnette.

The Czech bassist and the American drummer are clearly on the Norwegian guitarist's turf ... See full review

Don't let the tacky cover art and questionable band name and album title fool you. The band didn't seem to take themselves too seriously, but this is Big Fun somewhere between Ozric Tentacles and Bitches Brew. Seriously Deep and tragically unknown.

My black vinyl copy is as quiet as can be.

I had a copy like this as well. I only noticed the difference after buying an upgrade copy and noticing that the Columbia House copy had a much larger dead wax area on it.

Many who love the late Allan Holdsworth’s early performances with bands like Soft Machine, Bruford and UK find his solo releases progressively difficult to appreciate. As Holdsworth’s music drifted further away from rock influences, his music became ... See full review

Released about a year before cancer took his life, Nidemonex is Dieter Moebius' last solo release. Moebius' brand of electronic music was always distinctive, whether working with his longtime collaborator, Hans-Joachim Roedelius, or by himself. Moebius' ... See full review

Releasing an album this good on cassette and download only seems like some kind of cruel joke more than a clever marketing gimmick aimed at retro-hipsters, especially for an artist who has released several other albums in deluxe vinyl packages. The ... See full review

If one were to compile a list of iconoclastic and innovative guitarists who came to prominence in the 1980s and 1990s, the list would have to include such names as Michael Hedges, Adrian Belew, David Torn and Steve Tibbetts. While Tibbetts is probably ... See full review

I enjoy the work of both Michael Hoenig and Manuel Göttsching. For my money, this is the finest hour (or the finest 48 minutes at least) for both men. It's amazing to think that this sat in the vaults for 20 years without being released. Sadly, it seems ... See full review
