The Mole People - Break Night / Ocean as reviewed by zacdavisssss

April 1, 2016
Both sides are VERY "techy" house (this would no doubt be called "tech house" if released in the last 15 years), definetly made for the late night warehouse grip.

M.A.N.D.Y. - Jah as reviewed by zacdavisssss

April 1, 2016
great mid 00s minimal vibe that fades nicely into a dark, acidhouse influenced pre-Berghain basher, only to fold back over on itself sunrise style.

Jeff Mills - Force Universelle EP zacdavisssss

Richie Hawtin - 006 as reviewed by zacdavisssss

April 1, 2016
Funny Richie Rich wasn't satisfied as this is for sure one of the last good things he made (this and 005 are the only ones beyond the Concept 12"s i can stomach). $220 tho?!?!?! i understand it's piss rare, but jesus.

Electric Deluxe - Electric Deluxe as reviewed by zacdavisssss

IMO Speedy J was always one of the most over rated dudes in global techno, making cheesy tunes. however, Public Energy 12" is a killer and this one here is a classic. that whole "spastik"/"washmachine"/"tribal bells" etc etc etc vibe, you can rock this for a good 30-45 into a set, and when u finally drop a song that at least has a bassline on top of the drums, the crowd will lose it. both "Glitch" tracks are nice too, hard techno that plays around with the filter and fidelity issues for the duration of both tracks.

War Easy Made - The Internecine Truth [101 808] as reviewed by zacdavisssss

April 1, 2016
this may just be "another solid tool", but its a very solid one IMO; esp with both sides blended. a bit like "spastik"/"boots on the run"/"electric deluxe"/"demented drums"/"washmachine"/"day by day (green velvet mix)" if all of those records ate a handful of xanax.

WK7 - Washer as reviewed by zacdavisssss

April 1, 2016
i don't like disagreeing with user:MAROKO as he is a hero to all discogs users; but i happen to think this is the best track in the WK7/Head High cannon. "Washer" is great breakbeat (built not sampled!) HOUSE, with a truly fucked sounding vocal sample; making this a perfect record to transition from house to techno/techno to house, or just add a little shade of the other to your formal set or whatever. i agree MEGATRAP was probably a stronger release overall, but "Washer" is probably the Palowitz track (not counting Wax/EQD) i've played at most, and for sure the one that usually goes over best. oddly i found mixing in Watergate's classic "Lonely Winter" (the "dubfire's luv dub" side) about 20-30 seconds into the beginning of this track and just letting both ride is a very very powerful mix, and really helps the Watergate record "explode" in a way it does not on its own. one thing i love about Palowitz's production is the way it sounds like he is sampling ghosts of 1991 and repurposing them. B side i think ive listened to once or twice tho.

Soul Capsule - Overcome as reviewed by zacdavisssss

April 1, 2016
PROPER "deep"! everyone seems to love "Lady Science" (great track and i gotta say, w/o the 'tek mix' this record drops a few points), but personally "Overcome" makes it into many, many more sets of mine. Ford/Hutton/Melchoir was unstoppable in the late 90s/early 00s.

Kevin Yost as reviewed by zacdavisssss

April 1, 2016
One of those rare producers who put a very unique stamp on what can be a (at times) generic/tepic genre ("deep" house). like Wayne Gardiner , Larry Heard, Theo Parrish or DaRand Land, Yost's sound is steeped in Jazz influences (tonally and rhythmically) yet it still retains the immediacy inherent in the most base of dance musics. Truly sublime sounds, and all tracks work equally for sitting around baked staring at the ceiling or at 4 am on a sweaty dancefloor (you can tell massive attention is spent in the way he sculpts sonics, making sure the tracks are both funKtional and funCtional). One of those dudes not talked about much, but when spinning a record of his you realize you've heard numerous tracks of his in your favorite djs sets over the years. True soul music for our times, illustrating the complex sensations not easily articulated that come from our contemporary intimacy with machines. Yost's take on #blacksonicalchemy is crisp, fresh, seemingly tactile; yet for all the theorizing and contemplating (it is "deep" house after all!) one can do, his tracks ultimately make you wanna get up and move/shut off the "mind" and let "body/soul" guide the voyage. One of the best in the game.
