Crazy party record that didn't sound like anything else in 1981 (at least nothing I knew about back then).
Feel-good record with a ton of happy vibes, cool lyrics, a sense of humour and an atmosphere of total mayhem.
We all liked this one back then... and when someone played it out at a hip hop night about 20 years later it still sounded good.referencing Shoot The Pump (12", 33 ⅓ RPM) 4W9-2473
I have a US pressing of this with labels that are black and white with grey back ground.referencing Shoot The Pump (12", 33 ⅓ RPM) 4W9-2473
Excellent latin tinged disco funk by a NYC band that should've brought out more than this one 12 inch. The band leader was one of the graffiti pioneers in NY and the sleeve reflects this. Shoot the pump talks about two friends opening up the fire hydrant on a hot summer day in the ghetto. Cops show up and shoot one of them, mistaking the monkey wrench in his hand for a gun. Luckily he was wearing a bulletproof vest and survives. Great wordplay in a semi rap style is to be found in the lyrics. A must have for any disco/funk collector.
