The Verbrilli Sound made his debut with MANY COLOURED BUTTERFLIES, and the gentle fluttering that kicks off "Drum And Bays" soon gives way to a lower register funk that speeds up to full-on breaks, but the funk continues onto the Mars exploration of "Descender." The title track starts low and slow but as it segues into "Dizney"a solid beat develops, and that too morphs into something more groovy and then something more jazzy. Indeed, that's a hallmark of this album: the tracks continually shift and change shape, taking on new forms and keeping the listener engaged throughout. "Finger Dippin'" starts off like classic 808 State before sliding in some filtered jazz samples, while the atmospheric "Views" could have come from Good Looking Records. The beauty continues into the slower breaks and guitar lines of "Decent People," but the quietly moody and swooningly romantic melody of "Te Miro" takes the cake. And even if "Ultrawide" and 'High Sky Haze" don't really do much as a tracks, "Skyplates" taps into some funky disco for added flavor. And fear not, plenty of flavor permeates this album as a whole.

Without a doubt, the best work released by The Verbrilli Sound to date. Every track connects seamlessly to keep you in a trippy atmosphere at all times. Within seconds of the album's opening, you already know you're in for something special.

"Drums and Bays" starts off gracefully, floating. When the beat drops, it progresses to a salad of beats, mixed around violently in a beautiful manner. "Descender" has an extremely infectious rhythm with some great samples. "Many Coloured Butterflies" is haunting and mysterious, like a walk down a dark spiraling stairway. "Dizney" can best be described as a funky, ethereal trip that seems to pull you further and further away from your seat. The first half of "Finger Dippin'" is a weak point, in my opinion - however, the song seems to unfold in the second half with a nice groove. "Views" is one of my favorite track on this album. It features a sample from Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams", but may not be very noticeable to many. Pay attention to the percussion and you will be taken to another world. "Decent People" can get slightly repetitive, but not a bad song altogether. "Te Miro" is the real gem that outshines all other tracks. If you are to sample one of the 12 tracks, do yourself a favor and make this the first one - you'll be persuaded to get the album based on this song along. Jazzy, strange, sexy, smokey, bohemian - all words I'd use to describe it - perfect. "Ultrawide" starts off with a great beat, spacey sampling and deep bass hits, progressing to one of the most beautiful and sadly uplifting riffs I've heard in any comparable genre. The ending is pretty interesting, too. "Boda Beings" is an appropriate interlude - when you finish listening to it, it's like you're coming out of a coma, or some kind of very dense fog. "Skyplates" lifts the haze and sets a more festive mood, but the feeling of strangeness from "Boda Beings" lingers on, which I think is a perfect mix. "High Sky Haze" seals the album with a cartoonishly-industrial construction feeling.

As Salieri said in Amadeus - "Displace one note, and there would be diminishment. Displace one phrase, and the structure would fall." Wonderful!

This is one of my favorite records of all time, the first Verbrilli Sound LP. Every track a gem, every mood jusy wonderful. It's been in my record box for about 4 years now and not going anywhere, in fact if anything it gets played more and more. If you like The Verbrilli Sound, then you're in for a treat.

Work of a genius ! ( and I should know I collaborate with him !)

Track number seven, "Decent People" is bloody great. My favorite on this disc, a must hear, the flow of this song is simply addictive, nice guitar. Second place would be 'Ultrawide", funky and delicious, again with some slinky and sublime guitar noodling, sweet bass drops, drums and keyboard work. Awesome.

Along with all the other excellent songs featured here on this CD, this is a purchase gladly made and cherished. One of my desert island discs.
