The Clancy Brothers

The Clancy Brothers

Profile:

Irish folk band active 1969-1998, an offshoot of The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem.

In 1969, after Tommy Makem left the group to go solo, Pat Clancy, Tom Clancy (2) and Liam Clancy recruited brother Bobby Clancy and continued as The Clancy Brothers. This lineup was accompanied by Finbar Furey and Eddie Furey.

Bobby left the group in 1971 and was replaced by Louis Killen, who recorded four albums with them. Liam and Louis left in 1976, and the group went on a brief hiatus.

The band regrouped in 1977 with Pat, Tom, Bobby and nephew Robbie O'Connell.

Liam rejoined the group in 1990, when Tom took ill (he died later that year).

Liam and Robbie left in 1995. The group continued as a live unit of Pat and Bobby, joined by Bobby's son Finbar Clancy (and Ed Dillon for one tour) until Pat's death in 1998, which brought the group to an end.

Bobby, Finbar & Ed continued to tour as "The Clancys" though to Bobby's death in 2002.
