Bad Apples (2)

Profile:

Bad Apples has been, for a few years, Estonia's best underground lo-fi group.
Bad Apples started in 2003 as a bedroom project, young guy Henrik Esse was one mastermind behind it. His bedroom recordings made its way into hearts of some local music fans. Some thought that real tweepunk in Estonia was found at last, others found that you really can’t choose better name for your music and some people thought that there’s a gifted songwriter. Latter ones happened to be behind local indielabel Seksound. Thanks to their support an album was recorded and small group of musicians gathered around Henrik and Bad Apples. Henrik Esse writes songs, he sings, plays keyboards, guitars etc. Supporting female vocalist is Helina Risti. On other instruments you find Rein Fuks (ex Pia Fraus) on drums, Tõnis Kenkmaa (ex Pia Fraus) on bass and Rivo Järvsoo on guitars, of course they play everything what’s needed. Seksound released group’s first official album “When Colours Become Day And Night” in 2006. Roughness of bedroom was little turned down, so great songs can shine a little better. Punk was giving way to indiepop and mellow 60s. Now they have finished their second album. Punk aesthetics may have remained, but rock is gone. It’s more like baroque pop on indie world, getting influences from 60s music, from proper pop music to west coast psychedelia. Vivid examples would include pop giants Serge Gainsbourg, The Carpenters, Juan García Esquivel. Henrik said that he wants to make estrada music (I can imagine it’s huge musical area from Burt Bacharach classics to great soviet pop), but he doesn’t have big orchestra. I can hear that idea materialize in Bad Apples way.
