Ernst Karel
Profile: | Ernst Karel (b. 1970, Palo Alto) makes electroacoustic music and experimental nonfiction sound works for multichannel installation and performance. His recent projects are edited/composed using unprocessed location recordings; in performance he sometimes combines these with analog electronics to create pieces which move between the abstract and the documentary. While based in Seattle (1990-95), Chicago (1995-2005), and Berlin (2005-06) he was very active on trumpet and analog electronics in improvised music, exploring ways of expanding the vocabulary of the trumpet both acoustically and electronically. In Cambridge Mass (2006-17) he moved more into experimental nonfiction audio and audiovideo in the context of the Sensory Ethnography Lab. He's formerly known as Ernst Long. |
