Music publishing division of the CBS/Records Group formed November 1, 1981 by ultimate parent CBS Inc. to consolidate its worldwide subsidiary publishing operations under a unified structure.
The locally operated companies that formed part of the division included April Music Inc., Blackwood Music Inc., April Music Ltd. (CBS Songs Ltd.), April Music Pty. Ltd., April Musikverlag GmbH (CBS Songs Musikverlag GmbH), April Music (Canada) Ltd., April Music Holland B.V., April Music Belgium, Edizioni April Music, Editions April-Music, April Music AB, APRIL MUSIC, S.r.l., Melograf S.R.L., Ed. Elam. Ed. Mundo Musical, Discos CBS, S.A.
In 1983 CBS Inc acquires United Artists Corporation's music publishing operations - MGM/UA Entertainment Co., Inc, which included its various worldwide operating companies, which are subsequently integrated under the CBS Songs umbrella.
In 1987 the CBS Songs division (companies) including the rights (catalogues) to over 250,000 songs is acquired by SBK Entertainment World Inc., subsequently SBK Entertainment World Inc. would be acquired by Thorn Emi Plc in 1989.
