American Multimedia, Inc.

Profile:

American Multimedia, Inc. (AMI) was a CD and cassette manufacturing company in Burlington, NC.

LCCN credits:
● For CDs, please use "Glass Mastered At" and add the full "★CD-###-####" glass master catalog number as the catalog number ("★" is a letter).

LCCN entry example:
Glass Mastered At – American Multimedia, Inc. – ★CD-###-####

Example: Yo-Yo Ma, Michael Dadap And Children's Orchestra Society Young Symphonic Ensemble - 25th Anniversary Gala Concert

Manufacturing Broker credits:
Several companies brokered the manufacturing of releases to AMI. If they appear by-name in the matrix, check the broker's label profile for how to enter their LCCN credit. If the broker's label profile does not specify how to credit the broker, then credit them using the generic Manufactured By credit.
Example: Kamikaze Cowboy - Hurry Sundown

The matrix:
Each AMI matrix has 7 parts. The following is an example of a typical AMI matrix (Yo-Yo Ma, Michael Dadap And Children's Orchestra Society Young Symphonic Ensemble - 25th Anniversary Gala Concert):
MCD-176-0001 G1 950530 Mastered by AMI American Multimedia Inc.

Part 1 ("MCD-176-0001") is the glass master catalog number.
Part 2 ("G1") is the glass master #. G1 is the first glass master, G2 would be the second glass master, and so on.
Part 3 ("950530") is the glass mastering date (note: NOT the release date) in a YYMMDD format.
Part 4 ("Mastered by AMI American Multimedia Inc.") is AMI's manufacturing ID.
Not present in the above example:
Part 5, the release's catalog number.
Part 6, the name of the third party that brokered manufacturing.
Occasionally there are also bits of text/data with an unknown meaning, such as a pair of asterisks ("**").

Parts 1 to 3 always appeared in the matrix. Parts 4 to 7 each occasionally appeared in the matrix.

AMI Inc. didn't always include their manufacturing ID in the matrix, but pressings with the "★CD-###-#### G# YYMMDD" matrix string can still be credited to this manufacturer.

"MCD-176-0001" itself has several components. "M" is the first initial of the company that contracted AMI for manufacturing. "CD" is the media format. The middle three digits ("176") is the client number. "0001" is a sequential number; each client has their own 4-digit number series, and each new release contracted for manufacture by the client to AMI is assigned the next available number in this sequence.

SIDs:
There are currently no known American Multimedia, Inc. pressings with Mastering or Mould SIDs.

Variants vs separate releases (and Represses/Reissues):
- As long as your copy is visually identical to a release already in the database (and has the ★CD-###-#### AMI catalog number in the matrix), it is preferred that you add your matrix set as a variant.
- If the release is tagged as a Repress, the release date field should be blank (do not use the glass mastering date in the matrix to update the release date field).
- If you are unsure, would like help, or if there is a disagreement, please use the help forums.

Company History:
Beginning as AMI Video/Post, Inc. in 1978 as a cassette manufacturer, AMI built its CD manufacturing plant in 1994. AMI stopped all production by 2013, and auctioned off assets from 26 to 27 June 2013.

Media manufacturing:
AMI manufactured cassettes and CDs; it is unknown when cassette manufacturing stopped, but CDs were manufactured from 1994 until production stopped. While its equipment had DVD production capability, it is unknown if AMI ever manufactured any DVDs. AMI might have also printed/published books at some point.
