- THIS IS JUST A REWORK OF THE ORIGINAL "THE ROTARY CONNECTION - I AM THE BLACK GOLD OF THE SUN" RELEASED IN 1971.
- masterpiece. 8 minutes. 4 Hero knows how to create sth.special, but here weve'got sth. incredible. it's MAGIC, its so Powerfull. It's MUSIC based on everything. a little bit of funk, jazz, broken beats and of course dnb. That;s why electronic music is intelligent and for headz ...because weve'got remix of "black gold".
- A2 It's Alright, I Feel It Alternative 12" mix is the highlight of this release. Jocelyn Brown's vocals are huge and the beat is a nefarious hip-hop inspired break. It's uplifting NY vocal house and a really fine M.A.W. remix. B1 Runaway an Armand Van Helden remix of a Vincent Montana joint features real funky bass line but a more up tempo sound, high BPM chicago house in the 128/129 area. Not really sure what to make out of the B2 Sweet Tears,. the song is pretty and sad but Roy's vocals are confused, he then puts in work with an epic vibes solo at the end. It's interesting that's for sure. A1 is an R&B crossover attempt.that didn't age well. But hey they can't all be winners.
- What an amazing tune! For all those that doubt the credibility of dance music have a listen to this... And by the way it is not Broken Beat, Latin, Future Jazz or Disco - it is DRUM AND BASS!!!! Pure and simple.
- Edited 18 years agoTwo gems on this 12". The MAW remix Of Black Gold is similar to the album version, but with a more hip-hop style beat, and added positive and spiritual lyrics from Q-Tip which create a lovely alternate uplifting version.
Armand van Helden's remix of 'Runaway' will be no stranger to most, with it's funky soulful house riff and the 'play them vibe' vocal riff. - Languorous and beautiful, I Am the Black Gold of the Sun is marred (on the MAW remix) by some ill-placed rhymes by Q-Tip. Jocelyn Brown again does wonders with the vocals and her accompaniment is both heavy (the beats) and dreamy (the synths). But the 4 Hero remix is the one that takes the cake. It’s future jazz at its most profound and sublime, with sweeping strings and Jocelyn’s vocals soaring above them and the broken beat rhythms. The re-edit of “Runaway” cuts up the India’s vocals a bit more, but it doesn’t necessarily add anything of note.
- a classic 4 hero mix is amazing and has loads of swing original is a bit more staight forward but still very classy sounding... roy ayres track is a porno disco soundtrack waiting to happen.. fantastic
