Lindsey Buckingham – Go Insane

I have a hard time getting into this album. Love most of Buckingham's work w/ Mac & solo, but maybe it's the production, which feels icy and sterile...or maybe it's that too many of the songs just aren't very substantial or memorable. There are exceptions: "D.W. Suite", "Bang The Drum", the title track...but this just isn't one of my favorites by him. This pressing is fine, but the mix has that glossy 80's sheen, and the drums (errr...drum machines) sound thin and dated. My copy plays clean and noise-free.

Can someone help me identify my copy? I have a sealed version which Bar code scans to this (and other versions). But on the back cover PolyGram has a red P and red G. Help!

A fair bit if musical styles on this album. If your looking for something Fleetwood Mac 'ish, its not here. Lindsey definitely doing his own musical exploration on this album. An enjoyable listen.

Desperately in need of a deluxe edition. Extended mixes, dub versions, the unreleased 12'' mix of Go Insane, demos - this album should receive it. Not only that, the original mix has some distortion and suffers from typical 80's coldness.

Honestly, one of the most idiosyncratic and uncompromisingly brilliant pop albums of all time, and sadly underappreciated in 2011. This is the product of a very individual mind and talent. Great songs, amazing playing, thoroughly eye-opening production, it sounds like crystal shattered into bizarrely perfect form. Every song is like a different facet, from the singles "Slow Dancing" and "Go Insane" to the album's closer, Lindsey's Dennis Wilson (Beach Boys) tribute "D.W. Suite". Check this album out if you like the arty-but-hummable side of Talking Heads or Peter Gabriel in the '80s, the weirder side of Fleetwood Mac (if you're a "Tusk" album fan, this solo material is a must-have.) Honestly, this needs to be remastered (carefully, NOT all compressed and loud) and reissued in deluxe form with the various import-only remixes available (the "Extended Mixes" of "Go Insane", "Slow Dancing", the promo-only dub version of "Go Insane", and any demos that L.B. had floating around at the time...maybe some live tracks; these would all be welcome.)

Edit: It's now 2021. COME ON PEOPLE, reissue this in all its bizarro glory.
