As I Lay Dying – An Ocean Between Us

Shoved entirely too much music onto one disc, it's tragic. Everything outside the center of the record sounds great, the high end in particular stands out as since Jordan switches cymbal hits rapidly during these tracks, the individual hits can get lost in the CD version. The bass sounds great too, it's not just blending in with the guitar anymore. Unfortunately none of that matters when you get to the center of the disc, songs like Forsaken and Comfort Betrays sound so damn bad, I'm listening to Comfort Betrays right now while typing this and it's so bad, just static all over everything, quality absolutely going to shit. Had they split this across 2 LPs, this would be perfect. They put effort into the mix and master here, it shows, they just shoved too much shit onto one LP. Still recommend it if you love this album but damn. I didn't even give this a full clean like I do most records, it was clean on arrival and a simple once over with an anti-static brush on the turntable took care of everything. It came in one of those lined sleeves that don't scuff the disc, really nice touch. Like in every other department, Metal Blade went all out on this release. The disc was clean, the packaging shows a level of respect and care for the material, the image on the jacket isn't just some blown up .jpg file, and it being 180 grams you know it feels good and came in flat and sturdy. Just some of the best tracks fall in that low quality area of the disc. Forsaken as mentioned before, Wrath Upon Ourselves, and This is Who We Are are some of AILD best composed tracks, with amazingly dynamic sections that are beautifully detailed with little touches but you just can't fuckin' hear it all over the degraded quality. Like I said, everything outside of those areas sound great, but there's four tracks of an album that almost has no skippable songs (I hate Within Destruction, I cannot stand Within Destruction) that just sound like shit. I've got mixed feelings on this one, I'd definitely replace it with a 2 LP version if they ever made one later, even if that version isn't 180, but I'm also not so disappointed I'm gonna get rid of this version without a better alternative.

does anyone know how much fo these are produced ?

This particular variant sounds really bad. Like so bad that I thought I blew my speakers or that I needed a new stylus. It's very muddy. Compared it to some other records I have and the difference is apparent.

Represses- good if you weren't lucky enough to bag one in the first place, bad for all of us sitting on valuable original pressings!
