- Raucous remix by Joey Beltram that, twenty-six years on, sounds a bit dated.
The Wildcard Remix is probably the best of the lot, here, stripping back the original to the essentials, somehow making it even more energetic. Maybe it is the removal of those super-loud hi-hats; they were quite tiring, after a while.
McBride's version is amusing in its minimalism, even if its The Birdman-like bassline makes it sound a little naïve, perhaps. It will get no love from the DJs, however, owing to its being an absolute bitch to mix, adding and dropping 10bpm at random and potentially causing massive, humiliating trainwrecks. Thanks, Woody! - yes for sure hard beats and hats and long repeating simple acid - but the vocal (bang the box - how genius - like "pay your taxes" on https://www.discogs.com/Jessie-Deep-Sebastian-S-Pay-Your-Taxes-Mystic-Waves/release/265651 - american promotive action? afraid off europeans stealing US sound?) solid track - but me does not follow the hype
- Also I don't understand why Missile didn't release digitaly the originbal Funk D'Void remix... One of the best techno track...
- Unfortunate that the Echoplex Remix was never pressed to vinyl. This (and the Skudge remix) are my favorite versions.
- A real stomper which was absolutely played to death around 95/96. I have heard Colin Dale, Luke Slater and Joey Beltram drop this monster back in the day. And boy did this track have funk - Tim and Damon pushed those even number 16th beats to an unheard of (for that time) amount of swing.
It's real nasty one to mix and I have to admit my annually retentive brain can remember none of the above DJ's managing to slip it in smoothly - the main problems being the uneasy fade in, the awesome swing and the 'compressed to hell' production which overwhelmed almost most of records that were floating around at that time (the last time I heard this out was at Club UK, Wandsworth).
Good quality techno with swing and distortion to die for - more please! - The remixes were later re-released on Tim Taylor's 'Planet Of Drums' label with another mix by Claude '2120' Young.
That release unfortunately did not contain the ESP remix, which IMHO is the best (and most subtle) remix, better even than the original, which has been copied and imitated a lot by this crew since.
The ESP remix is a very different style of track: subtle, basic and funky as hell acid.
By this record if you find it - a top shelf release that surpasses the original. referencing Bang The Acid (Remixes) (2×12") Missile 33
Well worth buying for the original of Bang The Acid alone. The Beltram mix is typical of his style at the time, all sirens and distorted bass drums, and very good. Laidback Luke and Claude Young mixes are an added bonus.
