Groove Research pulls spacey house styled chords and whispered sweet nothings in your ear. Well ahead of its time. An early but excellent example of soulful drum and bass that’s not cliched. A gem…

Blame's 'Sub Committee' EP is an absolute slept on gem and a strong 4-tracker too, with not a single dud on there. The EP epitomises the early nineties "intelligent" jungle sound perfectly, with strong detroit techno influences appearing on many of the tracks ('Groove Research" in particularly). The addition of a jungle reworking of Blame's 1992 classic, with 'Music Takes Me' makes this an essential secret weapon for any classic jungle set.

If I had to choose a favourite, then 'Dream Finder' would be my pick of the bunch, with it's stuttering amens, soulful female vox, deep bass pulses and more importantly, those gorgeous emotive pads. This track is purely spine-tingling in my opinion.

The Groove Research track is the special tune for me on this EP. Will never tire of it.
The rest of the tunes are also decent (including a rare excursion into amens from Blame - can't actually think of another one he's done) but this whole EP seems to have got a little lost on release in 1995, probably due to the sheer number of high quality releases coming out at that time.
On Groove Research the pad/string intro builds beautifully with a simple but infectious tone melody, leading into layered shuffling breaks, a Blame signature bassline and killer breathy vocals. Absolutely love this track but never heard it played back in the day. Kind of reminds me of a Jonny L style track off the This Time EP.

More recently has cropped up a few times on the excellent DJ Trax and Nucleus Catch a Groove shows - see Soundcloud.

The version of Music Takes You (Me) seems to be a lost gem. Hardly anyone seems to know it exists. I remember playing this at the time and watching everyone going absolutely nuts. Lost count of the rewinds we were asked for.
Still sounds good almost 20 years later..
