Radioactive Goldfish – Rhythm And Rave

This is an important rave album for the time in the American scene. 91/92 i was in Florida and picked this up at a record store. I had no idea what i was buying but the names of the tracks and artwork had me interested. This was in the bass music bin because it was released on Cheetah records. Cheetah was the home of bass legend dj Magic Mike so i assumed i was buying something like Bass Boy or Techmaster P.E.B. which were what i called almost some kind of techno bass. I put it on and i was immediately thrown back. It was some kind of dark techno. As the next fee years evolved i now understand it was very Belgium doom rave sounding. So i am assuming thats what influenced them to make this. And of course new beat. But the movie samples in this makes it very Testone / Energy Flash like.

A very important album in the underground rave movement. I still cant point to anything that pre-dates this sound that was made in America. The reason i think this is is because many UK vacationers went to Florida in tbe summer. They brought their rave music to us. In n fact the first time i heard it called rave was from some bird in UK i met on the beach and hooked up with. She asked me "do you like rave?". I said whats that. She brought out a tape and played it on the boombox. "Oh you mean techno" i said. She said ya but its much more intense.

New york and Los Angeles get the most props for rave starting in America but Florida and its beaches were hotspots for UK kids. In fact the first rave i went to was in Florida that same summer.
