- Edited one year agoThis mastering is garbage. Yes, the pressing is very quiet, but that's IT. I don't know what the source was, or the process getting it to vinyl, but this thing is simply nowhere. It's like clean and digitally sterile, but plenty of all-digital recordings blow it out of the water. The original CD is far superior.
First and last MOV "reissue" I'll ever do.
EDIT: I don't have any idea what's up with the reply here - I'm not detailing my system online but I emphatically disagree. This vinyl is NOT how vinyl should sound, and does NOT come close to the original CD. Psychoacoustics is a thing, especially when you have a "good mid-range system" I suppose. - SUPERB!! Just because an artist doesnt approve of an official release doesnt stop this from being a definitive release. MOV have nailed the pressing records game... this is sooo much better than the "artist approved" GC releases that youd think those were bootlegged from your local market! Flat silent and stunning. Theres no way im sat listening thinking it can sound better. The jacket has a lovely smoooth matte finish and MOV have upped their artwork game so its all clear and sharp. The LPs come poly lined as always with MOV.
Leave your artist moans at the door and grab this version and jist enjoy the music, it wont get bettered - Edited 2 years agoSaturday, Feb 5th, year 2022. The Enlinghtenment just an instant before the Event Horizon - finally there after almost 30 years of.... short stories. From the centre of the chest.
- What was MOV's source material for this reissue? Would they actually press from CD?
Is there any chance this will be reissued / remastered officially as the Global Communication material is? - Edited 3 years agoI'm glad I held back for the Global Communications reissues as the boxset is out now (well its sold out) and reissues of Bloodmusic Retranslated and 76:14 are also out seperately in September and mastered from the original DATS.
I messaged Mark Pritchard on social media who confirms the same with this reissue, I'm in two minds as although unsanctioned it would still be better than my no copy of this album. So I guess I may buy it but will certainly be buying the 'artist approved' remaster when it surfaces. - Edited 3 years agoIt's a shame that the artists have not approved the new edition, especially if they're not going to benefit economically from it.
But as a consumer I cannot be more than grateful that they've finally reissued one of the best electronic albums of the 90s.
It doesn't matter if the artists have given their consent or not. At the end of the day what remains is the music, which speaks for itself. This reissue sounds infinitely better than the original vinyl cut, no cracks, hiss or unwanted noises, and the artwork with the booklet is gorgeous. - My copy sound good afterall, but I am having distortion in the right side in the end of the last track disc 1, side A (about last minute).
Anyone having this problem too ? - Edited 3 years agoMOV will continue doing what they do and all copies of this will sell. Those complaining about dodgy dealings and practices will miss out again and the cycles continues. Meanwhile the music lives on and is enjoyed purely for what it is. You still support the artists by keeping their music relevant and bringing it to the attention of new listeners. All reports say the pressing sounds good, regardless of the source mastering material. I’ve even heard (passed down information from Mark and Tom) that the original CD version (technically) sounded better than the original vinyl version. Mark has also recently mentioned that an “official” remaster of this lp, from their own masters, would enable a much higher fidelity product. So as it stands the MOV release could technically sound better than the original vinyl release but will probably sound inferior to a remaster from Mark and Tom directly. Yes it's good to call out MOV on (alleged) improper practices but i very much doubt Mark or Tom would be offended if you bought this Vinyl.
