I haven’t even got to records 2 and 3, but worth getting for the first 1 alone. Warn your neighbours, sub-bass aplenty!referencing This Time EP (3×12", 33 ⅓ RPM, EP) XL EP 118
Who is the vocalist on This Time? Doesn't she deserve a credit? Not a sample, is it?- A perfectly produced and arranged piece of vocal led soulful DNB - not many can put tunes like this together but Mr L is right up there with the very best. All the mixes are quality to suit whatever mood you're in.
And the vocal mix doesn't sound dated at all - just shows what a timeless tune it is. referencing This Time (CD, EP) XL EP 118 CD
This EP is as seminal as Goldie's Timeless. Absolute craftsmanship and hype as fuck.referencing This Time EP (3×12", 33 ⅓ RPM, EP) XL EP 118
So incredible, the tunage on this release is ridiculous. My faves are =
Plate 1 ~ 'Wa Oh' rude and deadly multi layered beats, shimmering shakers, sublime bongos, macabre atmosphere, and creepy swirling bass, oh and fuck loads of heavy Amens. This is hard ass business
'Jazz' is so god damn funky, its got this incredible groove to it, ultra cool film score type hook, skankin sick beats and sub sub bass. Future funk beats to die for.
Plate 2 ~ The 4 mixes of 'This Time' are on point, Ronis Sizes' Dub mix drops epic beats that roll effortlessly with bass which is so perfectly sculpted. Headstrong & Mad Balheads' remix is super heavy and so so deep (the perfect example of the rough with the smooth). No 9 The Wicked opens so beautifully with those floaty pads and funky as' marching snare drums, so hypnotic, Its a dreamy drum funk masterpiece.referencing This Time EP (12", Promo) XL118 DJ2
Bukem / Speed amen classic. Weedkillaz on the mix if ya didnt know!- Edited 12 years agoIn my opinion, both mixes are really good. Agree with restless' comment though, Mix 2 is especially special. Great Carl Craig works.
- I bought this is the week is came out. "Never Let You Go" was in constant rotation in my set list for nearly a year. It has all the best elements you want from a quality old school jungle tune, the drum programming and everything else simply still cannot be beat even with the advent of newer technology. I am no longer a DJ, only a fan of the music but I take this one out every once in awhile for a listen. Brings me back to that time when I fell in love with this music.
- Edited 17 years agoUnlike Carl Craig's latest remixes, all classic and dancefloor-functional but in my opinion quite formulaic, the Mix 2 here is touched by magic, and must be one of CC's most amazing works.
Very tribal and dubby, it's built around an unexpected and graceful harp sample, followed by obsessive syllabic voice-snippets, both finally melting together and exploding progressively like a symphonic cascade on the dancefloor.
Timeless and unique.
