The first of a two part reissue set by Leeds based rockers The Music, this debut made massive waves when it came on the scene back in 2002. The fresh faced 4 piece were barely out of their teens when this album stormed the charts and with it's eclectic blend of 70's Rock, Indie and Electronica quickly becoming an influential record for the next generation of guitar based music.
Armed with 2 CD's to give a proper shine on The Music's breakthrough record this release is given an amazing remastered job that will knock your socks off from the very start. It's production was made to be larger than life and as such feels like the group recorded the whole thing at an amphitheater, giving their style that added oomph to singer Robert Harvey's already high octane vocals. In turn this led The Music coming across as an early 21st century Psychedelic movement as the songs can easily wash over you if given half the chance.
Along with the outstanding singles 'Take The Long Road And Walk It', 'The People', 'The Truth Is No Words' and 'Getaway', the first CD also features 2 bonus tracks - 'New Instrumental' and 'Alone', both of which were deep cut B-Sides (though the former had first appeared as a secret pre-gap track on the album's original release). The gems continue on the second disc with B-Sides & Rarities from around that time - including all 4 songs from the EP 'You Might As Well Try To Fuck Me' where the title track takes on a drawl that although makes most of the vocals near illegible is still a pretty awesome track. This side of the album is slathered with electronica led pumped pieces, instrumental jam sessions that work as an incredible call to arms and even a couple of live tracks recorded in Tokyo (as Japan would be one place the group would flourish), making this reissue certainly something to keep an eye out for if you happen to be a fan of hype up early 00's Indie Rock. The only thing missing from this outstanding collection are original recordings from their time with Fierce Panda Records due to licensing issues, but those can be found pretty easily if you look hard enough.
Their follow up 'Welcome To The North' would be an even tighter piece that would garner them some of their biggest hits, but if you want to see a younger group full of piss & vinegar who hold nothing back and will turn your speaker system inside out with their raw yet highly accomplished sound then this is certainly a set to look out for.

This sturdy debut by British Indie Rock band The Music seemed to come out of nowhere in 2002. The rock landscape was repairing itself after nu-metal and the UK charts were slowly being filled with indie acts raised on Feeder, Radiohead, Reef and alike - The Music were no different. Featuring the roaring singles 'Take The Long Road And Walk It', 'Getaway' and 'The Truth Is No Words' as well as 'The People' (which would later be seen on an EP release) this album is bursting with energy, mostly emanating from their singer who comes across as a human megaphone.
Also included but not mentioned on the release is the stunningly broody pre-gap tune 'New Instrumental', a track that would be seen in live form on the album's first single as a b-side. Although it was their follow up 'Welcome To The North' that would see them gaining far more attention this release is a perfect way to break into the charts.

The Music mag, besides bands like The Strokes and The White Stripes, the latest discovery in the rock music. After their single debut with the revealing title "Take The Long Road And Walk It hit the hype-o-meter of the British directly on ten. In september 2002, they released their long awaited debut album on the renowned Hut-label, which previously was responsible for the breakthrough albums from the likes of Gomez, The Verve, Smashing Pumpkins and Placebo. Creates The Music the promise anywhere. Every song on this album is as strong and that in itself is a rarity in the music world. The foursome, said more inspired by modern art than by modern music, psychedelia, power led energy and cascading makes chaotic noise, with which the band itself clearly against the domestic image of many Britpop bands. The chainsaw by the nerves as a cutting voice of Robert Harvey throws improved on top.

I would suggest that anyone buying this record should take into account the sheer weight of the vinyl discs. So, when ordering, one should suggest to the seller/shipper that the records be removed from the inner sleeves and also removed from the jacket itself for the process of shipping. This will reduce the chance of terrible seam-splitting to the gatefold jacket and if the LP's are removed from their inner art sleeves as well, there will be no damage to them either in transit. This will definitely save future heartache! :-)

There is a second track on the 'D' side that is not stated on the back of the album. Track 'D2' is the "New Instrumental" which was a pre-gap on the UK edition of this album on CD.
