I can't believe how cheap this album is! I thought this little gem was an old obscure r'n'b record when I first put it on. So good!

*** NOTEWORTHY. Considering that in eight years, the Ventures released twenty-nine albums (liner notes), it's not surprising they had a few duds, and it's amazing that they were able to put out enjoyable sets like this one. This isn't their strongest set, and maybe not the best starting point, but it's another worthwhile grab for fans, turning up the R&B/funk with content (James Brown, Jesse James, etc.) and the inclusion of horns and organ. The Horse theme runs through most of the set, galloping, grazing, jumping...it runs slow at times, but somehow they even make "Tip-Toe Through the Tulips" entertaining.
