- I think this was one of the first breakcore records I ever heard, before I'd even heard of "breakcore" I think - on a tape from some early 2000s. And although I would agree that "Toxic Jungle" is probably the highlight - "Doormanymouse" is the one I remember, a gloriously angry blast of broken kicks and angry metal vocals. And of course that sample - "lick the sweaty balls!"
The A2 "Six Million More" does deserve a shout too - a great slice of broken hardcore with some amens distorted almost beyond recognition and fantastic use of a sample of someone angrily answering the phone - which I was amazed to learn is Arsenio Hall!
This sums up why I love Addict so much. It feels like a nice balance between the rawness of early breakcore, and the ridiculousless of later breakcore - neither too po-faced, nor too knowing, just gloriously odd hard rave music. - Toxic Jungle gets its inspiration from the break in the Equinox track "Hard Drive" released on Vortex Records back in 1993.
Nonetheless, it fits right in here.True classic. - Edited 17 years ago

unfortunately this one is not as good as the original.of course this is 100% DM style but it lacks the energy that the good old "Toxic Jungle" stuff used to have + too many breakdowns.for Doormouse fans only. - Edited 18 years agoThe real gem here is Toxic Jungle. I remember hearing it for the first time on Doormouse's "Soft And Gentle" tape and couldn't believe that music like this existed. Five years on and it doesn't sound dated at all, to my ears. I still play this track regularly.
This is a great track for mixing because of the synth lead that takes up the first minute or so. Seems simple enough at first, but listen closely and you'll discover a complex, polyrhythmic piece of pure 8 bit sounding genious. Then there's that evil, growling bass drop and a beautiful mess of amens. Classic Midwest hardcore. - Find a flaw on this record. Kerrang went ape shit for the vocals on Doormanymouse, and justifiably so. Absolutely fucking brilliant. Also been loving the scratch samples, a capellas and general sonic nonsense that's left at the end of every damn track on this beast of wax. Addict once again turns out a record that's 100% dj friendly. If you don't get girls running up to you offering you quarters for moustache rides then you're wearing the wrong shirt.
