- I love the first few Clan of Xymox albums (both the 4AD albums and Twist of Shadows), and definitely including the EPs derived from those albums. At the time, there were many great gothic bands (Dead Can Dance, The Cure . . . ) and I include Xymox in with the best. There was a 'rare' beauty in Xymox; the way they merged a pained, longing darkness to a catchy beat being a definite and unexpected SKILL - gosh, those goths were rising from their graves to dance! (You'd never dance to DCD, but yes, of course you could dance to some Cure. Come to think of it, one evening, in a night club, I remember a few girls forming a circle and dancing to Cocteau Twins' Garlands album - anything is possible.)
All too sudden it seemed there weren't enough Xymox albums. So, anything to inflame that magic is appreciated. I discovered this Peel recording late, so was in a panic as to whether I would be able to find a copy of the vinyl at an affordable price, luckily I did.
Muscoviet Mosquito (not my favourite) sounds much better at home with the other tracks on this album (for me the song did seem lonely on the Eyesore album). The vinyl is produced beautifully. The double-sided insert is much appreciated by a fan - to read personal comments from Anka and Ronny is like receiving a test pressing with a special insert. Anka's comment regarding sexism in the music industry is interesting and puts the album in a context, also making it clear regarding her contribution to what made the unique Xymox sound (the well-placed, strange noises and electronica element of Xymox is what helped their music stand out as a gem amongst the goths . . . ).
This Peel vinyl is an absolute must for any Clan of Xymox fan. - Picked this up on Bandcamp with download. Fantastic pressing. Dead silent throughout. solid mastering for a Peel Session, and you can turn it up loud with zero distortion. Highly, highly recommended. If you are a fan, buy it. You won't regret it.
- It seems this is a limited release. Sold out at many record stores. Mine was 10€ more as original price. The record is worth every cent. So cool, that these sessions are available again. For me the best phase of the band. The remaster sounds totally fresh. Really cool pressing !!! No clicks or pops or....whatever...
This is a must have for all lovers of darkwave, synth and related styles....Now I must go and listen.....;.) - Brillant! I love their early albums, but this record is imo better than any of their studio recordings! Fantastic sound too!
- Edited 3 years agoReally nice pressing... my copy plays clear and clean.
Hearing “ After The Call” live is a very special sonic treat, and is worth the price of this record alone. That being said, all the songs are fantastic and for a fan of early CoX, this is a treasure trove of nostalgia. referencing The John Peel Sessions (CD, ) SFRSCD102
CLAN OF XYMOX - The John Peel Sessions (2001)
Temas recomendados: TODO EL DISCO
1) Stranger
2) Muscoviet Mosquito
3) Seventh Time
4) After The Call
5) Agonised By Love
6) Mesmerised- Mine came with a slight warp that dnap. Also had spindle marks/cracks. Could have been enjoyed before me. Sound is good
