Lovely record, great fun, underrated IMO. Terry, Brown and Peterson at the top of their game, but in an effortless, super-smooth style typical of their production (very cool, in the talk of those days).
This CD remaster still sounds top notch, it gives the Speaker’s Corner version (which I have) a run for its money, but if you have the $$, get both versions. Very cool.- Oscar Peterson, Ed Thigpen, and Ray Brown...Together they make the good music on this here LP...And they score some help with Clark Terry blowing mightily on the trumpet...Wonderful rich and mainstream jazz that you will enjoy hearing on your system...Way back in 1964 they sounded this fine...I was a freshman in high school and still recall Clark Terry along with Skitch Henderson on the "Tonight Show" band out of the Big Apple...Take the audio time tunnel test...Put this on the TT, close your eyes, and then gleefully take the journey back in music time...Have a most pleasant trip all!
- I have both a 1980's Japanese pressing and a Speaker's Corner pressing of this album. This CD outclasses both of my records and the difference is not subtle. On vinyl, the bass is a muffled thud, on CD, it sounds more plucky and delineated and with more tonality. Top end on vinyl is muted, it is boosted (not overly so) on CD which provides more sparkle to the recording.

Listening to this album you can easily think that none has ever expressed bop jazz through his piano as Oscar Peterson did.
The spark and crisp full-of-life sound with the textured bass is phenomenal.
It’s just unbelievable how a 1972 pressing can offer such an analogue quality. A very engaging and enjoyable work which deserves nothing less than five stars. It is a pure joy to listen to.- A little bleaching at the spine of the sleeve. This album is a stalwart of second hand record shops. That said it is a beautiful recording. The playing is tight and upbeat. Peterson's comping is fantastic.
- I interviewed both Clark Terry and Oscar Peterson during my career as a jazz journalist and broadcaster. "Mumbles" and "Incoherent Blues" were actually recorded after the session was completed for his private use. When Terry began singing "Mumbles" the trio fell out laughing, according to its composer. Peterson told him, "We've got to put that on our record." When Terry told him he also had another one, Peterson insisted that they record both songs and two performances from the earlier part of the date were omitted from the LP. It is strange that they were not located to fill out the CD reissue.
