Good Charlotte – The Young And The Hopeless

My copy of this came in with black spots throughout the neon green vinyl and was significantly scratched on both sides, causing many pops and a lot of surface noise throughout the entire playthrough. I ordered 3 GC records from UO, and all came with less-than-satisfactory results. I am trying to get replacements but am doubtful they will be any better seeing that I'm 3 for 3 on some sort of defects with each of the records.

My copy of this was perfect, the sound quality is exceptional and the pressing is without any defects.

A generally good pressing. B3 has excessive surface noise, but that seems about it. The music is loud enough to cover any and, almost all, surface noises. My side b had odd patches in the vinyl.

The singer is almost certainly in the center on every song. The rest of the instruments kind of mesh together to form a loud whole. The singer is easy to understand, the guitar is vibrant and the drums give a sense of rhythm.

Cartridge: AT150Sa

Picked this up today at my local UO and was pleasantly surprised to see it in the wild. I hadn’t realized they reissued this and seeing the cover immediately transported me to my early teens when I listened to the CD on repeat and obsessed over their music videos. The iconic 2000s! Sound quality is great and very dynamic on my ATLP120 with a Grado Prestige Gold cartridge. It’s the mix and sound you remember from the early days of its debut. My copy is clean with little to no surface noise, barely audible distortion on the inner grooves and no seam splits on the sleeve. The green color matches nicely with the sleeve art. A must-have album in your collection.

Pressing - 3/5
This pressing is a perfect example of why big retailer exclusive pressings get a bad rap. Slightly warped? Check. Spindle hole too small? Check. Slightly off center? Check. Dirty and noisy out of the package? Check. Inner groove distortion? Check. Yet, playing it on a quality player after a good clean, it actually ends up being noise-free, and the inner groove issues are minor. So, all in all, could be much worse.

Mastering - 4/5
Actually pretty impressed. This is a good sounding recording in the first place, and it’s well represented on this pressing. I’ve never heard the Enjoy the Ride press, so nothing to compare it to, but I actually think it sounds pretty good. The low end in particular is fantastic on this press. I honestly hesitated to spend the $30 retail price on this, but I’m glad I did.

I was very skeptical that this would sound good, but I have to give it the benefit of the doubt and say it’s a pretty good reissue. After hearing this, I’ll probably pick up the self titled reissue when it hits the shelves too.

Mine has a decent amount of pops and crackles, probably need to do a thorough clean. Otherwise sounds not bad, as good as a GC album’s gonna sound.

Sound is great, vinyl is pretty silent as well. I should specify as others have mentioned, give it a clean before spinning to get rid of noise. Love getting more of that bass punch you want out of these songs versus digital.

Playing through U-turn orbit, marantz 2215b and ortofon 2m blue.

effin UO. my copy has a top seam split. nothing a little brown sharpie can’t fix though. heh heh.. can’t wait to spin this. i forgot how many bangers are on it.

edit: a bit of a warp but it still sounds pretty great. really just pissed that they put that obnoxious sticker above the hype sticker. fire that person.
