- Near flat, very unnecessarily thick, well centre'd and not too noisy if not exactly silent even after ultrasonic cleansing. Mono sound, nice mastering. For £13 very acceptable like most Waxtimes ive realised.

Quiet, flat, cool, lovely. Such a great album. At 15€ this is a no brainer. Such a joy to listen to.- Nice pressing. Flat and quiet. Download included with my copy as well as insert listing other releases available on the ‘Back to Vinyl’ imprint. White poly lined inner sleeve with heavy cardboard outer sleeve/cover. An absolute steal at this price.

The labels are misprinted, as in side 1 should read side 2 and visa versa. Side 1 label has side 2 matrix and track list...referencing Jim Hall (LP, Album, Mono) PJ-79
Producer Richard Bock was notorious for overzealous editing of tracks, but he really went overboard with this repressing. On this reissue LP, he cut many of the solos by pianist Carl Perkins and bassist Red Mitchell, then also overdubbed Larry Bunker's drums, an artist not even present on the original LP. This is an excellent debut as a leader by Jim hall, but get the original version, if you can only find it.referencing Jazz Guitar (CD, Album, Reissue) CDP 7 46851 2
This US CD reissue is a mess, thanks to the work of producer Richard Bock. Not satisfied with the original album, he reworked it, first he edited out many of Carl Perkins and Red Mitchell, overdubbed Larry Bunker's drums on another reissue, then discarded the portions removed. The "alternate take" of "Things Ain't What They Used To Be" is actually the original master, the shorter track is the work of Bock's unnecessary editing, it's the same performance but truncated.- This is the first CD version that restores the solos that Richard Bock unwisely removed (by Mitchell and Perkins) on later editions, includes the song included in an anthology and restores the lost song that couldn't be found when this album was reissued on CD in the US. A terrific debut album by Jim Hall, who would go on to make many memorable recordings during his long career.
