As reviewed by me in March 2001:
I bought this compilation of tracks from 1992 and 1993 to get the monumental theme 'Acid Eiffel' on CD, and was surprised to find that every track on the disc exceeded my expectations and was at nearly the same high level of quality. It was well worth the investment. The style is analog trance and acidic trance techno with occasional IDM and Detroit affectations, more interesting than his later works. Some tracks sound more dated than others, but regardless, fans of warm analog techno with rich production values will dig it. Many of today's trance producers could learn a lot from it. The original version was released on the ZYX label and had 2 CDs, while this US edition has only one CD. The tracks that are missing are remixes and coproductions with other artists (Reese Project, Vernon S Wonderland, System 7, Alaska, Moby, and System 01).referencing Early Works (2×CD, Compilation, Digipak) 2003709
I have this compilation on Official Tape (K7) , think it's RARE !
The tape is not presenting the entire tracklisting (just 12 Tracks) ...- Acid Eiffel and Wake Up are the bombs here but check Virtual Breakdown, which is great in a sortof part techno part proto-trance way. I miss those days.
- Edited 14 years agoThis album is really great in my opinion and between 91-94 was the best time of Laurent Garnier. And tracks like The Dream, Wake Up, Water Planet, Acid Eiffel, always make me feel good. This album also means something special too me as i bought the album in France and i thought it would be nice to visit France to . And the reason i did that was that the album was impossible
to get in Denmark or Sweden were i am most of the time. Thank you i hope you liked my little story about this album.

Just by reading any one of these track titles should ring the bells of Notre Dame in any self declared electronic music fan's head. The Goliath of contemporary electronic music dusts off the classics and collects them on two discs. In brief, this is as good of a retrospective as any you've ever heard. They're all here- from the timeless party tunes to the more home friemdly laid back atmospheric gems to some killer remixes. Not one filler. Top drawer stuff all the way. Essential. It brings more sweet memories than admiring your arsenal of colored vinyls. Great to play this for your crew when y'all are in the mood for a retrodelic night in somebody's living room.
