The first 30 minutes of this show are a gripping masterpiece. The album does say it has been rechanneled to simulate stereo, however, it sounds mono to me. If there is any stereo effect in this recording, it isn't noticeable.referencing War Of The Worlds (LP, Remastered) 4001
Absolutely phenomenal presentation on this LP of the original radio broadcast in MONO, allegedly transferred from the original 16-inch acetates cut live right in the radio studio. Hell, even the cover is cool...referencing War Of The Worlds (LP, Remastered) 4001
Grabbed this at a thrift store on a whim and it’s a joy. I had heard the broadcast before, but it’s one of those pieces of my collection that people always want to hear when I pull it out.referencing War Of The Worlds (2×LP, Stereo) MF 201/2
According to the ad on page 15 of the March 1979 issue of Analog Science Fiction magazine you could mail order this set (records, 8-track, cassette) for $8,98 plus $1,25 shipping and handling.referencing War Of The Worlds (LP, Remastered) 4001
Despite the claim on the cover of this LP being "electronically rechanneled to simulate stereo", the LP itself is completely mono, with no trace of any simulated stereo effect -- nor is "stereo" mentioned anywhere on the disc labels. I think this was just a ploy to sell it at the "stereo" price (back when stereo LPs cost more than mono ones).referencing War Of The Worlds (LP, Remastered) 4001
A great example of how the archives of recorded time has been preserved. The passages on this LP are from the actual radio broadcast, Not something taken from a tape, they are archived from the original 4 large 16in acetates that were cut directly from the radio transmission. Note that this whole concept was done live in a studio with actors, sound effects records, gadgets and many other noise makers. It represents a moment in time when the "average joe" had their ears glued to their radio tube sets in utter hysteria. This was an performance where the stage was the eardrum of each human who heard it. Too bad some people took it too seriously.referencing War Of The Worlds (2×LP) ES 4001-2
