Reviews
- The Dynamo Of The Universe samples The Fugs - The Greed Spasm (https://www.discogs.com/master/196105-The-Fugs-Star-Peace-A-Musical-Drama-In-Three-Acts)
- This record is all about the B side IMO.
"Dynamo of the Universe" has a big hoover riff which is a bit different from the usual frantic juno riffs...with some nice moody pads in the middle. Even the kick is a little different from the usual Ruffneck sound.
"Mind Over Matter" i like even more - it follows a similar vibe, with Ruffneck again showing his UK influences (the hoover is from Ramos & Vinylgroover "The Beast", and the pads from the intro to DJ Hype "Roll the Beats" (I think). That sort of UK darkcore vibe mixes nicely with some more techno-esque analogue noises, and of course a nice fat distorted kick.
Both are tunes that got overlooked a bit - they are a bit weirder and less accessible than Ruffneck's bigger tracks, but it shows how even early on Ruffneck was doing interesting things with the early hardcore formula.
