- Edited 5 months agoAlbum Revolution #3
After FINALLY finding success (and being able to bask in that success), "L.T.D." and "Bobby Martin" got back "Together" and Produced the BEST album they EVER had in "Togetherness".....
I was living in "Cleveland, OH" by the time this album came out, and I SWEAR that EVERY House on EVERY block had this!!!!! You could even hear these songs coming from just about EVERY window!!!!!
Starting this SUPER DOOPER Crown Jewel album is the Classic, "Holding On (When Love Is Gone)"....I can still hear everyone on the block singing the HECK out of this one!!!!! Written by "Jeffrey Osborne" and "John McGhee", this INFECTIOUS Melody drivin' joint just makes you GET DOWN!!!!! "Jeffrey's" delivery, along with groups Background Vocals makes this joint SOOOO easy to sing along with!!!!!!
"We Both Deserve Each Other's Love" ("Jeffrey" and "James") is another Classic "L.T.D. Slow Jam".....By this time, the group PERFECTED their brand of "Love Music"....Once again, "Jeffrey's" Vocals is the catalysts here....There is NO WAY anyone else could have pulled this off!!!!!!
"Jam"....The way this joint THUMPS, I would label it "JAM"!!!!!!!!!!! "Jake" and "John" Wrote a MONSTER of a JAM here!!!!!! The Drums and Percussions are all over the place, and the FUNK Melody is another "Get On The Floor Foot Stomper" (and the group sounds like they were having WAY TOO MUCH FUN!!!!!).....
"You Must Have Known I Needed Love" ("Len Hanks" and "Zane Grey") is a pretty Groovy joint, with a touch of "Disco"....Again, not overly done, with "Jeffrey" capping things off with his delivery....
"Don't Stop Loving Me Now" is THE BOMB!!!!!!!
Written by "Bell & James" ("Livin' It Up, Friday Night"), this INFECTIOUS Groove brings about my "Isaac D. Body Sways"!!!!! "Bobby Martin's" Arrangements here, are just tailor made for the Voice we have come to know as "Jeffrey Osborne"....Don't ask me why, but I can imagine "Raphael Saadiq" doing something like this (I don't know Guys, again WIRED DIFFERENTLY!!!!)......
I am combining "It's Time To Be Real" and "You Fooled Me" only because they are similar in style....They are not bad songs AT ALL....All I'm saying is that they have nothing on the songs that I already mentioned....
"Concentrate On You" though.....
BOY OH BOY!!!!!!! This BOMB right here, in my opinion is the PINNACLE of the "L.T.D. Slow Jams"!!!!! Again, "Jeffrey" just has IT Vocally!!!! At this point of his life, you could give this Man a song about a "Roach" crawling around on the floor and he will DELIVER IT!!!!!
"Billy" got himself a Lead spot with "Together Forever"...."Billy wasn't the best Vocalist, but he was a HECK of a Song Writer, and this joint proved it....It was perfect for the group in the messages that they always tried to convey.....
"Let's All Live And Give Together" ("The Brothers Osborne") was a VERY NICE ending to a Classic album....Again, the message was about "Togetherness", and this RIGHTEOUS joint once again helped the group to TRY to get that message across.....
Ok, now my REALITY meter....
This album was the BEST album the group EVER HAD...And believe it or not, you would think that this would elevate the group HIGHER than this...Unfortunately (as we will see), things would completely change....I guess the pressure will be just a little too much for "L.T.D."....
Again, let's be honest here, "Jeffrey Osborne's" stock was getting HIGHER and HIGHER!!!!! And even though the other Guys in the group didn't have a problem with it (at this time), but you could feel like it was coming...
For the time being though, with this album, "L.T.D." was just RIDING HIGH!!!!!!!!
