The Black Crowes – Before The Frost...

Recently scored a copy of this with the made in CZ sticker w/the original bar code. This copy had two all white vinyls. Anyone else gotten one of these? Supposedly there were supposed to be 2 different finishes on the wax..was dirt cheap and sounds great. No complaints.

A second album, titled …Until The Freeze, will be given away for free exclusively through a unique download code which is included in Before The Frost… as a “thanks” to fans for two decades of continued support.

Before the Frost…, and its corresponding free album …Until The Freeze, were recorded over a series of five nights at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY. Although both are studio albums, all the new material was performed and recorded in front of an intimate audience of the band’s fans, making them a part of The Black Crowes musical history.

Before the Frost… features eleven new and previously unreleased Black Crowes songs including “Good Morning Captain,” “I Ain’t Hiding,” “Been a Long Time (Waiting on Love),” and other original songs that will serve to spotlight the bands ability to make emotional connections through their music. The free album …Until The Freeze is a nine-song collection featuring eight new original Black Crowes songs plus a cover version of the Stephen Stills classic “So Many Times.”

Before the Frost… Until The Freeze was produced by Paul Stacey and will be released through The Black Crowes label, Silver Arrow Records and Megaforce Records.

It is totally cake and egg at The Black Crowes. After the extensive touring which followed their comeback album Warpaint, trappelde the band of impatience to a new plate. And so did the fans but a year waiting for this album. On The Black Crowes Before The Frost work together with one of their musical heroes, Levon Helm of The Band. Helmet has an old barn converted into a studio, and that is an area where as a hundred fans can join — to want to fold their hands turn blue. And that applause is only right. On The Black Crowes Before The Frost dissen eleven old-fashioned steamy tracks on. Sometimes rocking, but increasingly sounds their love of country and blues. Before The Frost is the best the group in twenty years time. Let them so but again fast for a number of shows to their favourite holiday destination.

I was a huge Black Crowes fan during their heyday in the mid-late 1990s and lost touch with them after their 3 Snakes album. The Before the Frost...Until the Freeze double LP is a stunning return to form for the band and made me a fan again after all these years. The band is caught live at Levon Helm's barn playing a full set of super strong brand new material. It has everything I loved about the Crowes from back in the day: cool grooves, great hooks, fantastic instrumentation, psych-weirdness and some of the best playing by a band that has been around the block more than once. I find myself listening to this more than Amorica or Southern Harmony... it has become one of my favorites. Great album, HIGHLY recommended.
