Reviews
- Edited 11 months agoIt holds value as a cheap way to grab the spectacular bite-sized "Ride Out", but its a bit of a headscratcher as a 12". It's incredibly short, and each and every one of the tracks feels significantly half-baked or abandoned. Dilla's Donuts is a comparable touchstone in terms of attention span spent on individual ideas, but these snippets lack the urgent fire of Dilla's Donuts. These are positively languid in comparison, and none feel like the idea was explored to its completion, just that the artist, while talented, was not interested enough or able to take them further. Only "Ride Out" with its surf/ethiopian jazz ride cymbal burns bright enough to linger in one's mind.
Sonically, it sounds like most Stones Throw from this era. Professional and full. My copy has some nasty distortion on the vocals on A3, but not a big deal.
