Reviews
- If you've always thought that folk music needed to get more weird, Patrick and Eugene are here to grant your wish with ALTOGETHER NOW: BIRDS BEES FLOWERS TREES. The banjo strumming on "The Birds And The Bees" picks up a house beat and some saxophone for good measure. "Nevertheless" sounds like it could have come out of Mary Poppins, and "Altogether Now" is the funkiest jamboree ever. "Llama" and "The Leprechaun" are simply ridiculous fun. Many of the tracks sound like updated barbershop quartet ditties, even if it is just a duo performing them, though "Take a Step Back" draws on gypsy tarafs, though with a half-hearted rap attached. A bit of disco infiltrates "Don't Stop," and how can you not love the falsetto-polka version of Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head"? "Saturday Night" is a speakeasy ode to booze and "Peony" ends the album with an instrumental. Loads of cheeky fun.
