Reviews
- Edited 6 months agoYeah, Yeah, I know, I know....I think I reviewed this one like 3 times, but since I redid all the others, I can't leave this one out...
So, after many years of waiting, and wanting new "Stevie Wonder" Music (10 years to be exact), "A Time 2 Love" was born.....
After so many miscues and fumbles in the '80s and '90s, "Stevie" finally got back to being "Stevie".....Now, keep in mind, this is not a complete album, but compare to ones like "Woman In Red" and "Jungle Fever", it is a vast improvement....
"Stevie" got back to being "Stevie" (which kind of started with "Conversation Peace").....But again, it was 10 years later...I have a feeling (even though I can't prove it), that "Stevie" went back to his '70's heyday, and made sure that "A Time 2 Love" was up to par....
The album starts off with the "Gospel" flavored, "If Your Love Cannot Be Moved", which features "Gospel" artists "Kim Burrell", and Choir Vocals arranged by "Kirk Franklin"...It also had "Hip Hop" legend "Doug E. Fresh" providing his signature "Beatbox"....It's an ok song, but it doesn't do anything for me personally....
The album really starts for me with "Sweetest Somebody I Know" (the 1st Crown Jewel), which brings that signature "Stevie" sound...It also had a funny ending with his son "Kailand Morris", who was 3 at the time, bursting through the end of the recording session (and I'm glad "Stevie" kept it there...It brings the song character).....
"Moon Blue" brings you back to the days of "Stevie" killing it behind the Keyboards (even though there are background Vocals)...
The 2nd Crown Jewel, "From The Bottom Of My Heart", is another "Classic Stevie Sound" song, complete with that signature Harmonica behind a great Beat.....
"Please Don't Hurt My Baby" came very very close to being a Crown Jewel...It is very good, but I feel like it is missing something (even though I can't figure it out)....
The Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Ultimate Crown Jewel, "How Will I Know" (with his talented Daughter "Aisha Morris"), sounds like that kind of dream come true song of being able to sing with your famous Dad (and yes, she is the one "Stevie" wrote "Isn't She Lovely" for).....
The following songs, "My Love Is On Fire", "Passionate Raindrops", "True Love", "Shelter In The Rain", "Can't Imagine Love Without You", and "Positivity" (again featuring "Aisha Morris"), again, are very good songs, but not Crown Jewel material....
Now getting back to business....
The next Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel is "So What The Fuss"...
This joint was FUNKY!!!!!!, and it was a straight Radio Banger!!!! This had outstanding Vocals by "En Vogue"...Yes, I mean the original line-up of "Cindy Herron", "Terry Ellis", "Maxine Jones" and "Dawn Robinson".....Leave it to "Stevie" to be able to have a group like that, call a truce, so they can perform together again (I really hope it happens again...Real Soon!!!!!!)....Now the song has the cherry on top, by having Guitar played by, the ONE and ONLY Purple One himself, "Prince"!!!!!!
Now, the last, but certainly not least, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel is the "Stunning Title Track".....
Featuring "India. Irie", and "Mr. Sir. Paul McCartney" on Guitar, and clocking at 9 minutes, it's a Wonder Masterpiece that's been missing from "Stevie"....Ohhh, and how I love the ending, with just a gang of Drums and Percussions!!!!!!
Yes, this is a "Wonder-Ful" album.......And even though it has been some time since "Stevie" has done one, I just feel like he has one last great album left in him...I hope it is soon...But be that as it may be, we just wait.......
