Reviews
- I bought this primarily for the evocative cover photo, as the record was lightly damaged on one track - it sticks in the groove, but it was cheap (the copy that was sold in 2017), and is rare in its original UK format.
The music doesn't do much for me - it's kinda lightweight cocktail jazz background music for a swanky London nightclub back in the 1950s - all the waiters are wearing suits and bow ties, the ladies are all dressed up to the nines with glitzy jewelry, James Mason is lurking somewhere in the shadows for some nefarious dirty dealing - you get the picture. With vibraphone by Tubby Hayes, no less. It's beautifully played, but just too lightweight for me. I like some vigor in the playing, in a dirty, sweaty dive, not this upmarket 'sophisticated' stuff.
