Reviews
- Edited 6 months agoThis pressing lacks the bass of the original mono - at least on my setup (Rega P10/Apheta3/Aura). Get the mono.
- Superb pressing, picked my copy up from eBay when the whole MOFI thing kicked off for only £50. Having said that it is superb.
- These 45 rpm lps sound really really fantastic - never mind the digital story tough i think it should justify a lower price - but as for the sound, it is a revelation - as mentionned before, the early edition has a more beautiful box
- Edited one year agoFor anyone interested, the 2022 release of this has a completely new box design. This earlier release has a printed cover that is pasted on a black, textured box. The back has white printed text and mine is hand numbered. The 2022 release has a wider spine and is a white box with a direct printed cover and black text on the back. This seems minor, but I prefer the earlier release. It looks and feels higher quality (because it is), and is more era appropriate. Very similar to Donovan's A Gift From a Flower to a Garden box set. Just some info for the nerds (like me) that care about these details. Vinyl wise, the labels look similar and same plating, so it sounds great. I'd grab this earlier version while you can. Note: I'm a print designer and deal with paper/printing/design as part of my job.
- Edited one year agoIt is good sounding record that I never liked. Well, I prefer the version in The Original Mono Recordings. I think the the 33 Mono in the box-set is more detailed with better sound-staging. The 45 RPM gives you wide dynamics and it is little louder as expected, but I just don't like the mix or mastering. I am a 100% stereo person to the point that I actually rather listen to The Beatles in Stereo so it is far from mono old-school bias. That being said, the mono cut of this record just feel more live. It has more depth and character to it than the stereo.
It has nothing to do with DSD, it is just a personal taste. I have seen many audiophiles claiming this is the best they have ever heard, and that is fine, but personally, and for years, I have been recommending folks to sell this copy and purchase the Mono box set (when it was in stock) as it was selling for $125 relative to $75 for this one 2 years ago.
value is subjective, but I don't think this release worth $100 MSRP. If money is no object, then add $200 more and hunt for a Mono Box Set BECAUSE IT IS SO DAMN GOOD SOUNDING, and you get 7 more records. - Edited one year agoI wonder sometimes if some of these people that review on here even own the record they are reviewing, or if they just like to leave troll like reviews. This is one of the best if not the best pressing of this you could own. The whole whining about Mofi and the digital thing is really, really old. Go jump on another bandwagon. If you have a chance to buy this don't pass it up. It's great!!!!
- I don't recommend this, it sounds boring and artificial and besides now we know it's digital. I recommend an original UK vinyl or even a Dutch reissue. Cheaper and 100% analog.
