Reviews
- Spent an hour doing what could be considered my first official review of song on the internet only to have it vanish after I posted it. And without me even getting a chance to copy it beforehand. Typical. Spent energy and now no winds in my sails. Always fighting against the odds while them pile it all up me never to be free but bound, always lost but never found. Down here in Babylon Town.
- I am of the opinion that Seydou Koné, aka "Alpha Blondy" with his song: "Apartheid Is Nazism" started a cultural revolution that brought down a regime. Thus a testament of the strength of music and song. 1985 also saw Stephan Van Zandt's "Ain't Gonna Play Sun City." Then from that point on there were sanctions, boycott's, and finally the resignation of P.W. Botha, Prime Minister of South Afrika. Alpha Blondy's plaintiff appeal to Americans still haunts me today. And as much as the call and response of the chorus moved me then, it still does now. Probably the recounting of history done by Kone in this song of "The Great War" against fascism (WWII, in which our country fought) and then comparing this with the then current day struggles going on in Afrika, was the right show of coded respect to magnify the song's message fully enough to move the consciences of all who had already been caught by the song's happy melody and assertive baseline. Such as was the case with myself. Surprisingly, the song is hard to be heard today, anymore, despite the fact that the fight against fascism is an eternal condition. I hope to remind people of it, and pay homage to this song and its special meaning, with my own songs in concert one day. And soon, too. Yardmon50. Rastafari! P.s. and with The Wailers Band backing I&I
