- Among one of the most unique tapes, it's a complete timbral masterpiece that only deserves several relistens.
- In my opinion there's a stigma to this album. Because john was a heroin addict at the time of recording. If you were to take away that part of the cult that surrounds this album i think it would be viewed in the same vein as smogs "sewn to the sky" or beck's "golden feelings". A lofi album recorded (mostly) at home put out and (at the time at least) forgotten. But its impossible to separate the strung out young man who made the music from the music itself. Its the sound of desperation and despair set to music. Now I'm not saying its a bad album not by any means but you definitely have to be on its wavelength to get it. Luckily he made it out the other side and is ok now but I think there's definitely pre niandra john and post niandra john.
- Saw a version of this that has a "colored version" sticker and states only Universal, not Superior Viaduct on the back. Does anyone have any information on this record?
- Sound is fine on these LPs... Superior Viaduct does a great job. Too bad they issued this so-so limited (1000ex) red+7" "speculator" edition !
- There's a vinyl/remaster coming in October 2017.... you can preorder from here
https://www.superiorviaduct.com/collections/john-frusciante - Edited 7 years agoI have a sealed '99 cd release.
Spine #B000006802
I've had this sealed copy a long time.
I also have a mint opened B000006802 release.
Additionally I have two original '94: 9 45757-2 releases that I bought back then.
They both have general wear etc.
Happy to chat about them all.
I also have the small paper booklet that American Recordings put out with the yarn through the hole punches. Not easy to find.
Jazz drummer / Chicago / I still play along with this record everyday. Swings so hard. - This is by far my favourite album. Unpolished, raw, badly recorded, sloppy, yet the most emotive performances and song writing I've ever witnessed. One of those albums that I wouldn't change a single note.
