"Jackie is a true legend in Reggae music.
Mentor to countless singers and musicians, as well as being a great part of the Studio One story. As a musician he was just always there, both personally and spiritually. Jamaican music lost a true giant and Studio One lost a friend when Jackie passed on.
This 31 song tribute showcases many of different sides of Jackie. From his Jimmy Smith styled organ outings, to Stax influenced soul workouts, to his own Reggae rave ups. You'll hear vocals and solos, and plain exuberance, and you'll always hear soul. 'Cause Jackie was a true soul man and it showed. Thank you Jackie, we will miss you."
Tracks 1-4, 1-9 and 2-9 are previously unreleased.
Track 1-5 Some Kind Of Memphis a.k.a. Soul Ride
Track 1-6 Ghetto Organ a.k.a. Loving You
Errors in the tracklisting on this release:
Track 1-9 “Soul Call” is previously unreleased and on the "Everybody Rude Now" rhythm after the song by Keith McCarthy. “Soul Call” is an incorrect title. A different track with that title was released on the LP Ride Me Donkey (Solid Gold From Jamaica) in 1968, with credit to Jackie Mittoo. That track is on the “Catch The Quinella” rhythm after the song by The Actions.
Track 1-13 "Nature Boy" is by Lennie Hibbert.
Track 1-16 "Night Doctor" is by Ansel Collins, usually credited to The Upsetters.
Track 2-15 “Ska Matic” is a fictitious title. Correct title is "Ska Shuffle” by Soul Brothers, matrix CSD 148.
