Seller Terms

I am not a dealer, just a collector who is (reluctantly) thinning out the vast collection I have amassed over the last fifty years. I have had to register as a business seller as I have so much to sell. Please ensure that you have read and understood the description and the grading that I have given. I have had one buyer complain that an item, graded as Good and its exact condition described, wasn’t in Mint condition. That’s an experience I am not keen to repeat.

I spend a lot of time ensuring that I am listing the correct variant of any given release. Mistakes can always happen though, and I am always happy to double-check that the version that I am selling is the version that you are looking for.

GRADING

Items are primarily graded visually, because ‘light surface noise’ means nothing, whereas a scratch is undeniably a scratch. I grade honestly, and try to fully describe the condition of all playable media. In reality, the grade I give is generally a blend of visual and play testing, and I always keep in mind what I would expect to receive when grading and describing items. I am always happy to send pictures, play-test or answer any questions you may have.

I use an ultrasonic bath, and an Okki Nokki suction cleaner, to deep-clean all vinyl graded NM or below before I send it out to you.

I follow Discog’s grading system, and I will always accept returns for whatever reason. If I have not accurately described and graded your order I will also pay return postage. For covers and artwork I try to give a good idea of the flaws which lead me to my overall grading, but it is impossible to list every flaw on, for example, a well-used album cover. In many cases covers will have all-round wear (on the surface, edges and corners, and creasing) and I tend to characterise this kind of wear as light, regular or heavy depending how pronounced it is.

Visual grading is a great guide, but there are always outliers. I have records that I would grade visually as Good, which play as Very Good. I also have at least one album that looks Near Mint but plays as Very Good, it’s just a poor pressing. That is why I am happy to accept returns.

Please note that I will not accept returns of Mint and sealed items unless they are returned to me still sealed.

As a life-long collector, I have found that many picture and coloured vinyl discs do not have great sound quality when manufactured and even mint copies can have significant surface noise. If you want picture and coloured vinyl discs to be sonically appraised before completing your purchase I am happy to do so. Flexi discs have uniformly awful sound quality, judge ‘em on looks alone.

PRICING

You might be thinking of asking if we can do a deal, but I’m afraid I don’t do that. This is my collection and I’m allowing it to be sold because I’m getting older and I know my family won’t go through 100,000+ items and sell them individually when I die. I thought I might as well do that myself! I’m not actively trying to sell, just letting things go over time, because I still enjoy my collection every day. I’m happy to give things a new home where they’ll be appreciated, but the price I set is the value that I put on them. Some items that I have for sale are priced higher than you may expect: these are items that I am happy to sell eventually but I’m in no hurry as I love owning them.

I will not entertain the idea of partial refunds for any reason. I think like a collector, and if it isn’t what you want - either because it has a flaw that I haven’t mentioned, or a flaw that I have mentioned but you just can’t live with - you can send it back for a full refund, but no partial refund could ever make you happy with it.

PAYMENT

The buyer pays packing and shipping costs, which are calculated as close to the actual cost as I can. I am now using the Discogs automatic shipping calculator, which might throw up some anomalies in certain circumstances (for example: if your order is a mix of formats). I will check the shipping costs on each order and I will refund you if you have wildly overpaid. If it doesn't look quite right to you, then please don't pay the invoice until I get back to you with confirmation of shipping costs.

PACKING

For CDs and DVDs, I do not grade the cases. They are prone to damage in transit and unless they are specially stickered I disregard them and view them as consumable and easily replaceable items. By default, I will break out the disc and artwork, discard the case and send all media in a stiffened flat pack so that it has the best chance of arriving in the same condition it left me. I have seen some horrendous damage to discs as a result of jewel cases being crushed in transit. The exceptions to this are Digipak and other covers integral to the overall package, and Mint items still sealed in the original factory wrapping. If you want CDs and DVDs to be sent in jewel cases then please let me know immediately. I generally ship fast!

I pack orders for vinyl in dedicated stiff card mailers, with extra card stiffening inside. I remove the vinyl from the sleeve and, where it has one, the printed inner sleeve, to avoid damage to the spine or edges in transit. All vinyl is sent in new inner sleeves with an outer protective PVC sleeve to further protect the artwork.

When sending a CD with its jewel case or digipak I use dedicated thick card mailing boxes. I may use Jiffylite packaging, or home-made card boxes for unusually sized CDs and DVDs. I have had purchases arrive damaged because of poor packaging, and it is very annoying. I won't do that to you.

POSTING

I will post items as soon as possible after payment is received, generally within one day of ordering, and always within three working days - unless there is a note at the top of these terms saying I will be away.

Proof of posting will always be obtained. Orders with a sale value over £19.99 will always be sent by tracked mail with a signature required for delivery.

I always insure packages appropriately.

WHEN YOUR ORDER ARRIVES

If you are not happy with the service I have provided, or if you believe that I have misled you about the condition of an item, please contact me to discuss it before leaving negative feedback. I never quibble on a return for any reason, and will always provide a full refund as well as covering the return postage if appropriate. I can, and do, get things wrong, and I am always happy to work with you to resolve any issues. Any mistakes I make are accidental.

I leave feedback for buyers when I hear back from them that the order has arrived and they are happy. On one of my earliest orders the buyer told me it had arrived, then later put a claim in with PayPal saying that it hadn’t arrived. The idea of feedback is to let other buyers (and sellers) know whether you are trustworthy. I couldn’t leave feedback warning other sellers about this buyer because I had already left positive feedback immediately after he had paid, which is why I now wait.
