- Bought this at a record show this weekend. This was the only bad sounding record of the bunch. Not the worst I’ve heard but not good either.
What’s the deal with this never getting an official release? - This is the performance that solidified my appreciation of STP. This albums’ sound quality is just ok. The album is absolutely listenable but I would’ve loved a better quality pressing than what was presented here. The extra addition of Vasoline was not necessary at all. It sounds extremely disjointed and of very poor quality. Almost zero low end on this track compared to the actual performance. The spaces included in-between each song was jarring as well. The overall performance was mixed decent enough though.
- Orange vinyl plays very nicely with no surface noise issues and sound quality is pretty good overall with the exception of Vasoline which sounds like you’re listening to a beat up cassette tape. Cuts between the tracks aren’t that big a deal because when the song starts you forget all about it anyway.
Music 5.0/5.0
Overall Sound Quality 4.0/5.0 - Not the best sounding LP, but not the worst either. Clarity is OK & the bass is very strong, but it has to be said that it's the editing & gaps between songs that are strange. But it sure is worth the $15 I paid to hear a young Scotty sing the hell out of this batch of tunes, may he RIP...
- It's a shame... The songs were amazing... I just wish the sound quality was better. The editing stinks and it was pieced together... badly. It's disappointing. Unless you collect everything STP, don't spend more than 20 bucks on this one. Like someone else said- close your eyes and imagine you're there... it's the only to get through this one- especially on a decent system.
- Indeed heavy on bass, and the vocals are a bit too quiet, but still quite enjoyable. The guitars also sound quite clear. The conclusion of my analysis is that this must have been recorded with a pretty decent field recorder by somebody from the audience sitting very close to the stage. It's definitely not the same audio source as the FM broadcast which can be found on youtube of the unplugged cd which is part of their CORE deluxe box. And this is what makes it more interesting. It really gives an impression being part of the intimate audience.
- Great band, great music but horrible recording and mixing (especially bonus track Vasoline). Pause between tracks like in mp3 players
- Vasoline sounded like it was the album version run through a shitty filter.
Also don't like the gaps but I guess you have to do those cuts on a cobbled together compilation. I bought cheap, I got cheap. I can't complain. There are some decent tracks here.
Don't overpay. There's a reason it's unofficial. If you're a fan you'll be sure to enjoy some tracks. - Just snagged a copy of this. Not sure if bootlegs vary in quality on the same pressings, but for an unofficial release from a performance nearly 30 years ago, my copy sounds above average to my ears.
