Horace was one of those cats who would take you far out and then reel you back. When it was all over you knew definitively that you had taken a trip. As a preteen living in a basement apartment in Queens NY, I remember my pops turning me on not only to this but A Love Supreme and Miles Davis version of Someday My Prince Will Come. However, United States of Mind and A Love Supreme were what really seeded my curiosity about jazz. The modality, the tonal ambiguity engaged and at the same time challenged me conceptually, musically. This may have been experimental for Horace but it rates Five Stars out of Five as far as I'm concerned
