- Edited 11 years agoThis is a really classy EP, I can’t remember any other 12” that has such quality across all the tracks and had such a big impact on the UK scene. This is one of my favourite records of all time from the deep driving bass of Self Hypnosis a fantastic bass & bleep track with a Detroit feel through the warm synth sounds that really blend with the tougher “bleep sound” a fantastic track just on its own, the percussive drive of together, Techno Symphony with its strings of life style piano intro, its haunting bass-line, layered strings make this another great classic, then finally Real Love from its instantly recognisable bass, great vocal, layered strings which come in and out, it’s a minimal sound track that has rich and warm feel to it in places. This is one truly great EP and a pleasure to listen too, tough to call which is my favourite track between Self Hypnosis, Techno Symphony & Real Love. Check it out for yourself a really fantastic EP.
- "real love" is the standout track here for me I bought this ep for that reason plus I had bought "overload" ep from nexus 21 which I believe was there first realise on network which was an 8 track ep
- Edited 19 years agoThis is one of the most interesting works of Mark Archer & Chris Peat, specially because it was done before Altern 8. Through Nexus 21, they synthesized the musical characteristics of Sheffield's bleep techno, the classics from the pioneer artists of Detroit, the techno-rave and the ones from the forefront english band 808 State. This EP brings the elegant and atmospheric bleep techno of ‘Together’, considered a more elaborated tune than the common dancefloor. With the same kind of composition and stronger basslines, ‘Self Hypnosis’ points us to the idea of musical personal hypnosis through the different elements of techno; and 'Real Love' borrowed the same bassline of Mayday's 'Wiggin' track, but with a different climax. The single is pretty hard to find in general, and was one of their first releases by Network.
