Reviews
- Edited 17 years agoThree brilliant tracks; each of these showcases Jenkinson's mish-mash jungle style with 'modern bass guitar' overtures layered above. The last track, "Exciton" is maybe the odd track out, but still a fine demonstration of technical skill and the author's ability to craft a piece of new and mind-bending music.
This EP outshines "Venus No. 17", but only in that it's more listenable and dynamic than "Venus No. 17". I don't really think putting an album track on a 3-song EP makes for a purchase-worthy 12" (though I did buy it, rather than download the mp3s). Maybe next time Jenkinson and Warp can bump up the supplementals with a little more than just 2 extra tracks (mostly everyone by now agrees that the "Vacuum Tracks" are just rubbish). Though I do appreciate the bonus music, I am hungry for more Squarepusher. After all, the new LP is a meagre 65 minutes, and combined with "Hanningfield Window" and "Exciton", the total time is still less than that of the "Ultravisitor" LP (not even including "Square Window").
