- My release sounds great and I noticed I have the VMP etchings on my run out, but it's this release w/ black wax. The etching on mine omits the "Welcome to 1979 and rather has the interlockin LP that the VMP release does. Anyone else?
- Was there a more recent repress than this 2015 copy? Reason for asking is that my copy is a gatefold, but has the Pete Lyman mastering instead of Welcome To 1979. The back of the jacket says 2015, so perhaps they used two sets of lacquers?
My copy is a bit dished and has some non-fill in spots, but nothing too crazy. Vocals sound terrific, but in some songs it does sound like they are a bit hot (likely intentional and on the recording). The vinyl version cut my Pete Lyman smokes the Spotify streaming version by a mile. - I've got a copy of variant 5 (CJH both sides in the runout) and it's super disappointing. There's distortion on the vinyl in places that are not present on the recording, where it lives as an artefact of the live and off the cuff nature of the recordings. There are ticks and clicks and static throughout, this is an inferior cut to the other pressing I own (Metamodern Sounds In Country Music). I'll let VMP know and I'm sure they'll sort it out, but waiting in Australia for the postage and finding out it's a dud press is a real let down.
- VMP has awesome customer service. I am a monthly subscriber but I bought Metamodern through a small local record store. I got the mentioned locked groove at the beginning of side B. I emailed VMP and provided a clip of the issue. They could have sent me back to the store but without hesitation they are sending a replacement free of charge.
- Also picked this up at Walmart for $19. It wasn’t terribly dirty, just gave it a quick sweep and it sounds fine but would probably sound better with a wet cleaning. Anyone complaining about vocal distortion needs to listen to the digital version and realize it’s an intentional production decision. Played it at full volume and there’s nothing abnormal about it. Remember, life has surface noise folks.
- Just bought this yesterday at Wal-Mart and while the record came out of the sleeve dirty as fuck. I gave it a good cleaning and have little to no distortion. Zero snaps, cracks and pops so I think most of the people saying this record sounds bad needs to clean it first. By no means is this the quality of Music On Vinyl on 180g, but it's pretty amazing. For $19 it sounds great!
- This album is so great! But yeah, this pressing is distorted. Thought I had some junk on my needle. Nope. Just distorted. Bummer.
